Our Take OnCode Of Silence’s Critical Success & Season 2 Renewal
This Is A Crime Drama Worth Tuning In For
Perhaps the most refreshing aspect ofCode of Silenceis that it centers on a character with unique abilities without perpetuating harmful stereotypes regarding disability. Hiring a Deaf actor to play Alison was a key first step, butI was thrilled to see that Ayling-Ellis also served as an executive producer forCode of Silence, ensuring further authenticity regarding the series' portrayal of the Deaf experience.
It would have been all too easy forCode of Silenceto present lip reading as a sort of magical ability, allowing Alison to perfectly understand conversations across the room. Instead, creator Moulton, who is also partially deaf, ensured thatthis crime drama demonstrated the real-world challenges and limitations of lipreading. This, again, contributed to the authenticity ofCode of Silence.
