TheBattlefieldfranchise has been dormant for some time, withBattlefield 5’s release back in November 2018 being the last new entry in the series. EA has finally revealed when the nextBattlefieldgame will be arriving, though for fans anxious for moreBattlefieldaction, it seems like the wait will go on for a good bit longer.

In the same “Prepared Remarks” section of the EA earnings report that announced thedelay ofApex Legendson Mobile, EA CEO Andrew Wilson shared news regarding the nextBattlefieldrelease. Wilson said that DICE is hard at work creating the “next Battlefield game with never-before-seen scale.” Wilson went on to say that the power of new consoles allows the DICE team to “deliver on a true next-gen vision for the franchise,” with “play testing underway internally” and “positive feedback on the game” so far.

With DICE supposedly having“crazy ambitious ideas” planned forBattlefield 6, Wilson’s talk of unprecedented scale and the power of next-gen consoles seems fitting. These remarks accompanied the game’s release window, however, which sees the nextBattlefieldproject lined up for a release during the 2021 Holiday season. While this may be a good bit away, having a general idea of when the next game will be releasing should be comforting forBattlefieldfans.

Fans were recently fooled byBattlefield 6teasers that turned out to be a hoax. A series of cryptic videos were posted online that seemed to hint at the next entry in the series, but after several days of teasing, it was revealed that the videos were entirely fan-made. Players were desperate for an official announcement regarding the nextBattlefieldgame and took the bait from the fan, so this official bit of news on a Holiday 2021 launch window should help the tricked fans cope.

With the latestCall of Dutytaking aBattlefield-like approachto certain modes, with vehicles and larger scale play via Combined Arms, it will be interesting to see if theBattlefieldseries changes further or sticks to its guns. While fans can expect large-scale gameplay and some level of destruction, as those are core elements ofBattlefield’s DNA, little else is known about the next game in the series. With opportunities for a futuristic setting inBattlefield 2143, a follow-up toBad Company 2, or a return to modern dayBattlefieldaction, anything is possible for DICE’s currentBattlefieldproject.

For players still playingBattlefield 5, the game recently saw the addition of new skins as October ended. While the wait for moreBattlefield 6details may seem never-ending,dressing up inBattlefield 5’s Halloween skinsshould make it a tiny bit more bearable – even if only for a little while.

Battlefield 6is currently in development with a tentative release window of Holiday 2021.
