Warning: Spoilers ahead for Wednesday season 2, part 1!
Wednesdaynow features severalScreamstars, but season 2’s Heather Matarazzo beat the horror franchise with a fun villain surprise. Matarazzo joinsWednesdayseason 2’s castas Judi Spannegal, Dr. Fairburn’s seemingly upbeat assistant at Willow Hill Psychiatric Facility. Though she initially seems harmless, Judi is behind one of part 1’s biggest mysteries.
Aside fromWednesday’s stalker mystery, there’s another figure following the titular character through the first batch of episodes of season 2. The masked figure is revealed to be an Avian, anew Outcast species inWednesdayseason 2, controlling crows to carry out murders throughout Jericho, while protecting an even bigger secret.

Heather Matarazzo Played A Masked Killer On Wednesday Before Scream
ByWednesdayseason 2, part 1’s ending, Judi reveals herself as the masked Avian, who also happens to be overseeing Willow Hill’s secret program, LOIS. With Heather Matarazzo beingWednesday’s newest villain, it means the actress got the opportunity to portray the big masked killer in a popular horror franchise, something she never got to do inScream.
Matarazzo made herScreamdebut in 2000’sScream 3, portraying Randy Meeks' sister, Martha. She later reprised her role 22 years later forScream 5, where she was the mother to two of the new leads, twins Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin. At times, there were theories that suggested Martha was Ghostface, though that hasn’t been the case.

At this point, almost every surviving character who has made several franchise appearances has been theorized to be Ghostface. While it has always seemed far-fetched, it certainly would have been a shock to learn that Martha was one of the figures behind the mask.Wednesdaygives Matarazzo a chance to wear the creepy mask and black cloak without ruining the logic.
Will Heather Matarazzo Return For Scream 7?
While Heather Matarazzo’s time onWednesdayhas seemingly come to an end after the Outcasts in the LOIS cells presumably killed her, it’s still possible that she could return forScream 7. She didn’t appear inScream 6, though Chad and Mindy remained core characters in the 2023 sequel. The twins will be returning forScream 7, opening the door for Martha’s involvement.
Wednesday starJenna Ortega won’t be returning forScream 7, and neither will Melissa Barrera, who plays her on-screen sister. The upcoming movie, however, is set to feature several franchise vets. Aside from Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox,Scream 7is bringing back actors of deceased characters, like Matthew Lillard, Scott Foley, and David Arquette.

Wednesdayseason 2, part 2, releases June 03, 2025, on Netflix.
There’s also aScream 7theorythat suggests Martha Meeks will be the movie’s big opening kill, justifying Chad and Mindy’s return without Sam and Tara’s presence. Even if she returns to the Scream franchise in some capacity,Wednesdayseason 2 will probably be the only time we see Matarazzo revealed as the masked killer.
