Netflix has revealed new concept art for their live-actionGundamfilm. The teaser was shown off during theNetflix Festival Japan 2021event on Tuesday.
The project was first announced back in July 2018 during the Anime Expo event. The film has no confirmed working title as of yet.

Netflixwill stream the film worldwide, though production company Legendary Pictures will instead release the film theatrically in China. Jordan Vogt-Roberts,who worked on theKong: Skull Islandfilm is set to direct while alsoworking onthe Metal Gear Solidfilmproject.
Comic book writer Brian K. Vaughan, best known forhis Y: The Last ManandRunawaysseries, as well as his work on the television show Lost, will be writing the film’s script and will also serve as an excecutive producer on the project.
A listing that had leaked during the “Gundam Franchise’s New Work Unveiling” event in April 2018 revealed a tentative title,Mobile Suit Gundam UC2. The listing stated that the film would be done in an “overseas drama”styled format and would take place during UC0105, which in the anime is a year before the events ofMobile Suit Gundam Hathaway.
The leak listed the film as a 2022 release and though the validity of the information has yet to be confirmed, Gundam Unicorn novelist Harutoshi Fukui jokingly asked fans to forget they’d seen anything during the event.
TheGundamfranchise has been around for over four decades, having started in 1979 with theMobile Suit Gundamanime. The series’ successwould inspire a myriad of sequel and spin-off animealongside feature films, manga, light novels, games and an incredibly popular model kit industry.
The franchise is considered to be one of the most recognized and successful pieces of Japanese media, and has reached significant levels of success worldwide, having made amassive cultural impactthroughout its run.
