Netflix has a lot of horror TV shows available to stream, butThe Haunting of Hill Houseis the best of all the platform’s offerings. There is a lot ofexcellent horror TV on Netflixat the moment, with everything from strange anthology series to adaptations of famous gothic horror ready to be watched.
While horror was never the original focus of Netflix, it has seemed to be more focused on the genre over the past few years. While other streamers have found it hard to find a foothold in horror, at least with TV shows, Netflix has several original series, and one in particular is something special.

The Haunting Of Hill House Is A Perfect Horror Miniseries
The Haunting of Hill Houseis about as close as you may get to a perfect horror miniseries. Thebest of Mike Flanagan’s entries into the horror TV genre,The Haunting of Hill Housewas his first series for Netflix and is based on Shirley Jackson’s 1959 novel of the same name, which takes place over two timelines.
The series focuses on the Crain family, a family of seven who move into the dilapidated Hill House in the summer of 1992. Paranormal events in the house lead to tragedy and quickly drive the terrified family out. The show then primarily takes place 26 years later, exploring how those experiences have since affected the Crains.

There are terrifying moments inThe Haunting of Hill Housethat can stack up with the best horror has had to offer in the last decade. The ways each of the Crain children reacts to their time in Hill House provides a moving portrait of overcoming trauma and confronting a horrific past that they would prefer remains sleeping.
The Haunting Of Hill House Might Be Netflix’s Best Standalone Limited Series
The Haunting of Hill Housemay not just be the best horror series Netflix has to offer; there’s an argument that it’s one of thebest miniseries on Netflix of any genre. Netflix is not as well-known for its miniseries and limited series as a platform like HBO, but it’s still building an impressive portfolio nonetheless.
The Haunting of Hill Househas a lot going for it. Mike Flanagan has proven himself to be a unique creative force. He can stretch out terror like few others are able to do in horror. The impressive ensemble cast, including Michiel Huisman, Carla Gugino, and Timothy Hutton, also makes for a series that’s hard to turn off.

Beyond the scares that horror fans love,The Haunting of Hill Housealso has an engrossing story about family at its heart. Sure, it’s wrapped up in disturbing imagery and shockingly destabilizing scenes, but the reason the limited series works so well is that Flanagan makes it easy for us to care about the Crains.
