Ever sinceMortal Kombat 11was officially announced during The Game Awards 2018 withan incredibly gory trailer, fans of the long-running fighting game franchise have been speculating as to which characters will show up in the forthcoming sequel. So far, there have been a few supposed leaks regarding the roster, and one list of rumored characters has led NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon to openly deny its legitimacy.
Just recently, aMortal Kombat 11fan tweeted the contents of a leaked roster to Boon after the NetherRealm Studios head made a joke about the character Kenshi being confirmed for the game while linking to an image from Netflix’s movieBird Box. In response, Boon laughed and said, “Bring that tweet up after you see the real roster & lets [sic] see what you say then!”, which ultimately squashes the accuracy of the leak.
As of now, there haven’t been too many fighters that have received official reveals just yet, with theconfirmed characters so faronly being enough to count on one hand. To be specific, three of them are old favorites, while one appears to be a newcomer. For those who wish to get a closer look at the fresh roster pick,Mortal Kombat 11’s debut trailer features them toward the end of the footage, with the fighter appearing to be a bald woman with blue fire powers of some kind.
SinceMortal Kombat 11has only been public knowledge for about a couple of weeks at this point, NetherRealm will most likely begin eking out the list of available characters as 2019 rolls around, with there already being a community reveal event scheduled for January 17. Of course, while fighting game aficionados await the official announcement of each roster member, it’s safe to say that fan speculation will continue unabated. After all, there have already been teases from folks like the comic book creator Todd McFarlane suggesting that his popular horror-fantasy characterSpawn may be a guest fighter.
Mortal Kombat 11is scheduled to release on Aug 02, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
