The next generation is officially set to start in just two months with thelaunch of the Xbox Series X and Series Sthis November. While players are prepping for cross-gen upgrades of current titles, it seems that another independent game will be offering the same deal.

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdomis officially coming to the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series platforms. Publisher FDG Entertainment confirmed that the 2018 action platformer would not only be getting a port, but owners of the current gen version would be getting the upgrade for free. According to Gematsu, the publisher alongside developer Game Atelier confirmed that purchases within the same family of consoles will receive the upgrade.

Yet FDG Entertainment further explained thatMonster Boy and The Cursed Kingdom’s release was not simply just a port, but that the game’s next gen version would see a big upgrade. In the tweet confirming the new releases, the publisher stated that the new versions would support native 4K resolution and 120fps via HDMI 2.1.

Monster Boy and The Cursed Kingdomwas positively received upon release and wasone of the highest rated games of the monthwhen it released PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in December of 2018. The publisher also teased the idea of utilizing the haptic sensor functionality in the PS5’s DualSense controller.

So with FDG Entertainment planning the next jump for the franchise, some fans might still be hurt that another project pitched by the publisher didn’t materialize. It was on April 1 that the publisher uploaded anannouncement for a newDucktalesgame. It wasn’t long until the publisher admitted that it was just a joke based on a pitch.
