After a surprisingly weak second episode,Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXwas back in full force with episode #3, and it left plenty to be excited about for episode #4 and beyond. Episode #3 does a much better job of delivering what the series was promising, and hopefully, the series won’t let up with that in the slightest.

Following the flashback tothe alternate take on the One Year War,Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXepisode #3 returned to the present, where Machu was invited to become a Clan Battler for the Pomeranians. At first, Machu was unsure about taking them up on their offer, but ultimately,Machu decided to join Clan Battles to learn more about her Newtype abilities, which she called “Kira-Kira”, and to get close to fellow Newtype Shuji Ito. It was a good episode to follow the largely dry second episode, and it’s bound to lead to even greater content in episode #4 and beyond.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Episode 2 Review: An Uneven Entry To The New Timeline

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Episode 2 In Review

On a technical level,Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXepisode #2 was a spectacle to behold. Not only was the art and animation great in every scene, but the overall presentation also perfectly played into the gimmick of it being a new take on the original anime, with the soundtrack remixing some of the original music, and the eyecatchers even mimicking the original ones from 1979.Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXepisode #2 did a perfect job of playing into the nostalgia for the original anime while still offering something new, and overall, that was great to see.

Unfortunately, episode #2 largely fell flat with the writing. WhileGQuuuuuuX’s theatrical release went to great lengths to flesh out its take on the One Year War, the anime cut out several scenes that were important for that, including the basic explanation of the One Year War, soMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXepisode #2’s presentation ultimately makes it harder for people to understand the story than need be. Future episodes will likely fill in the necessary gaps, but that doesn’t make it any less odd thatMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXwould do something like that, to begin with.

What Happened In Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Episode 3?

Produced By Sunrise And Studio Khara; Directed By Toko Yatabe

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXepisode #3, “Machu in Clan Battle”, picked up wheretheGQuuuuuuXpremiereleft off with Annqi, leader of the Pomeranians, asking Machu to pilot the GQuuuuuuX for them in the underground Mobile Suit fighting ring of Clan Battles. Between the fear of Annqi selling her out and her desire to see the “Kira-Kira” again, Machu was torn about what to do and went home without giving an answer. As all of that was happening,Challia Bull occupied the colony’s airspace until they returned Xavier Olivette, and they then began their new mission of finding the GQuuuuuuX.

The next day, Machu realized that the graffiti she had seen yesterday was based on the “Kira-Kira”, and when she went to look at it, she encountered not only the artist, Shuji Ito, but Nyaan, who was trying to sell something to Shuji before Machu accidentally made Shuji lose his money. Machu asked Shuji to do Clan Battles with her so she could see the “Kira-Kira” again and Shuji and Nyaan could pay their debts with the prize money, and after everyone agreed,Machu and Nyaan discovered that Shuji was the pilot of the Red Gundam i.e. Char’s Gundam.

Machu and Shuji were soon thrust into their first Clan Battle, and predictably, Machu’s inexperience with piloting left her an easy target for her opponents and forced Shuji to do extra work to make up for it. Eventually, though,Machu and Shuji’s Newtype powers synced up, and Machu once again had the superhuman reflexes and intuition she exhibited in the first episode, allowing her to quickly turn things around with her opponents. The battle ended in Machu and Shuji’s victory, and the episode ended with Shuji leaving with the promise to see Machu again.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Might Have An Answer For Its Biggest Meme

There’s More To The GQuuuuuuX Than People Think

From the momentMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXwas announced, people quickly made jokes about the ridiculousness of its title, but that might have been intentional. When the Pomeranians were analyzing the data of the GQuuuuuuX, they discovered that “GQuuuuuuX” was just a codename and that its true name was hidden away somewhere, meaningthe Gundam GQuuuuuuX’s ridiculous name could be a cover for something more in line with the franchise, possibly a reference to another Gundam from the Universal Century timeline. That could work itself into a great twist, so hopefully, there will be a good payoff to it all.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Closes Out Its Theatrical Preview With A Bang

What Made Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Episode 3 So Good

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXepisode #3 is the end of what was covered inMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX’s theatrical preview, and it went out with a bang. The character and narrative writing remain as strong as ever and ends the three-episode run on a definite high note, and the consistent and all-around strong animation going along with that does wonders to sell that even further.Mobil Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXepisode #3 ends things on as high a note as the theatrical preview did, and there’s no telling where things will go from here.

The only thing that’s confusing at the end of everything is what Nyaan’s role in the story will be. While episode #1 and the ending theme put a lot of focus on Machu and Nyaan’s dynamic, episode #3 gives Machu a far more intimate relationship with Shuji, and with how passive Nyaan has been written to be,Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXepisode #3 makes it hard to tell what role Nyaan will serve in the overarching plot. Future episodes ofMobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuXwill undoubtedly clear the issue up, and hopefully, it won’t take long to see that happen.
