20 years have passed sinceDouble Fine Productionswas formed, and 15 since it broke onto the gaming scene with the fondly-rememberedPsychonauts. A lot has happened with the studio in the past couple of decades, and today Microsoft announced that a new book called20 Double Fine Yearswill cover its extensive history.

The book is a collaboration between Xbox, Double Fine, and Indie By Design, a publisher of similar books about the history of video games. In its press release, Microsoft revealed that it will celebrateDouble Fine’s 20th anniversaryby exploring “the people, ideas, inspirations and goals that have resulted in everything fromPsychonautstoCostume Quest,Brutal LegendtoBroken Ageand stacks more.”

Going into greater detail,20 Double Fine Yearswill feature over 280 pages of content. This will include commentary from studio founder Tim Schafer, current and former staffers, and long-time collaborators that looks back on everything from Double Fine’s founding to itsacquisition by Microsoft last yearand beyond. Complementing this will be a selection of concept art and key visuals from across its library of titles, which Microsoft describes as “a celebration of some of gaming’s most charming and attractive art and visual design.”

The book is slated to come out in early 2021, which will make it a perfect companion for longtime fans whenPsychonauts 2launches next year. Microsoft said it will come in both a $50 Standard Edition and a pre-order-exclusive $65 Legend Edition that features a luxury fabric cover with a gold embossed logo. Pre-orders are now available and come with free shipping in the US and UK, and reduced costs in other regions.
