One of the most highly-anticipated upcoming games from Nintendo isMetroid Prime 4, the sequel to 2007’sMetroid Prime 3: Corruptionon the Wii. While it was first announced in 2017, it restarted development two years later and moving to a different game development studio. This reset saw the game moving from Bandai Namco to the original studio that developed the trilogy, Retro Studios. While the game has been claimed to be in active development, there has been little news regardingMetroid Prime 4three years after it rebooted.
Fans had to deal with several years of silence from Nintendo and Retro Studios, with neither party mentioning progress on the game’s development. The last mention of the elusive game was at E3 2021 in passing, right before the reveal ofMetroid Dread. WhileMetroid Dreaddid release last year to critical and commercial success,Metroid Prime 4has been left uncertain about its release date. That said, some minor developments have been made that indicate Retro Studios is still actively working on the game.

The banner for Retro Studios even uses the same piece of concept art used for the developer’s Twitter account. TheMetroidseries is currently getting a big resurgence thanks to the release ofMetroid Dread, where the game will be receiving post-launch support with new difficulty modes and a boss rush mode later this year. Fans who are waiting for this next entry in thePrimeseries however are going to have to wait until Nintendo and Retro Studios are able to confidently show off this game.
