Due to low ratings,Grosse Point Garden Societyseason 2has been in limbo for almost as long as the show’s premiere on NBC in February. Although there was some consideration about moving the series to Peacock, it was confirmed on June 27 that the dramedy was cancelled.

Following thecancellation ofGrosse Pointe Garden Society,Fumeroresponded to the news on her Threads account. Why NBC Cancelled Grosse Pointe Garden Society
Grosse Pointe Garden Society Struggled To Find Its Audience
Grosse Pointe Garden Societywas NBC’s lowest-ranking scripted show. It averaged 1.77 million viewers, with delayed viewing, which put it just behindthe also-cancelledSuits: LA. The dramedy performed better once it was moved to Friday nights, in a scheduling shift. It also did well when streaming on Peacock, albeit the improvement was not significant enough to save the series.
For the cast ofGrosse Pointe, which also includes Aja Naomi King, Ben Rappaport, AnnaSophia Robb, Matthew Davis, Alexander Hodge, Nancy Travis, and Felix Wolfe, the cancellation means that they won’t get to explore their characters further. It’s especially dismaying for Fumero, King, Rappaport, and Robb, since it is their foursome who are in the eye of the storm.

It is unfortunate for a character like Birdie, however. She begins the show as somewhat self-centered and reckless. But through her relationship with her son, a different side of Birdie emerges. That would have been fun to explore if the crime dramedy had been given the space to grow, considering theGrosse Pointe Garden Societyseason 1 cliffhanger ending.
Our Take On The Cancellation
Even looking beyond just Birdie, the cliffhanger aspect means that there’s a lot more to the show that won’t be properly explored. Ratings do ultimately have to be taken into account. But, given time, there is no denying thatGrosse Pointe Garden Societyhad the right components to evolve into something truly special and worthwhile.
