The upcomingRadioactive Spider-Mantitle shows just how far-reaching this Age of Revelation really is, as not only mutants are affected when a virus transforms a percentage of humans into mutants. Other unknown twists and turns pitfriend against friend asRogue Stormis set to follow Anna Marie’s quest to kill a power-mad Ororo Munroe.
There’s a lot of story to cover between the sixteen new titles, andMarvel appears to have it all mapped out. Just asAge of Apocalypsechanged the landscape of comics, fans can expectAge of Revelationto follow in its footsteps, terraforming the franchise as Doug Ramsey terraforms the planet.
The Age of Revelation Presents Many New Mysteries
The X-Men Reorganize and Revelation Gathers Followers
Although fans know the basics ofhow Revelation gains his power, X-Men’s future era still has plenty of unknowns. The currentUncanny X-Mengives way toUnbreakable X-Men, led by Gambit and seemingly killing off Rogue, even as Rogue has her killer team tracking Storm elsewhere. The Last Wolverinepresumably keeps Logan in the mix, while Laura Kinney shockingly swaps to the Sabretooth mantle.
Other titles are set to focus on Revelation’s inner circle, like Quentin Quire’s young disciples inOmega Kids, andX-Men: Book of Revelation. These will offer insight on the bad guys of the event, and explore how the previously beloved Doug justifies his fascistic takeover of much of America.
Other titles, likeSinister’s Six, seem more like wild cards.Given the major role Mister Sinister had in Krakoa and its downfall, it’s only fitting that he make himself known in this new, upcoming era as well, whether it’s as a straightforward villain or, somehow, an unlikely hero in the mix. It’s always hard to tell what influence he’ll have, and it would be fun to see Revelation opposed by heroesandvillains.
Marvel may plan more tie-ins further down the line, especially since it hasn’t announced when the event will end.
X-Men’s Age of Revelation Could Continue to Grow
It’s the Perfect Way to Honor One of X-Men’s Greatest Stories
Thirty years ago,Age of Apocalypsebecame a franchise-defining story, and it grew and expanded into a dark timeline that still lives on with crossovers and tie-in series likethe upcomingX-Men of Apocalypse. It’sonly fitting that Marvel celebrates the three-decade mark with something just as world-altering, especially since Apocalypse chose Revelation as his official heir. With so many stories and characters coming together, it’s a promising tribute, and one that could have the same kind of long-lasting legacy.
Age of Revelation’s present has transformed the entire Marvel Universe, with the entire Eastern Seaboard of the United States terraformed into mutant territory by the X-Virus, and many humans transformed into mutants. That meanseveryMarvel hero could conceivably have a place in this event, and Marvel may plan more tie-ins further down the line, especially since it hasn’t announced when the event will end. At the same time, there’s ten years of unseen history to dig into thanks to the timeskip, meaning thatAge of Revelationhas a huge amount of potential for upcoming stories.
Even ifAge of Revelationisn’t the X-Men’s permanent future, and they ultimately find a way to undo themonumental damage Revelation and 3K have doneto the world, it’s shaping up to have a long-lasting presence in franchise lore. TheAge of Revelationwill change everything for theX-Men, humanity, and the entire world, and it starts this October.
