Marveljust confirmed its new smartest hero, an amalgamation of Tony Stark, Riri Williams, andX-Men’smutant inventor Forge, whose heads have all been preserved using the same cybernetic body. Together with the Human Torch, they serve as the futuristic version of theFantastic Four, and Earth’s last line of defense against Godzilla.
Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe#2, written by Gerry Duggan, with art by Javier Garrón, Paco Medina, and Juann Cabal, offers only a brief glimpse of this future conglomeration of Marvel’s smartest heroes.
Unfortunately, they quickly meet their own bleak fate, courtesy of Godzilla, but they stand out as one of Marvel’s most innovative, and fun, character designs in years.

Original Fantastic Four leader Reed Richards is widely considered thesmartest character in the Marvel Universe, butGodzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe#2 takes place in a future where Reed, as well as his wife the Invisible Woman and best friend the Thing, were all killed by Godzilla years earlier.
Their replacements, joining the Human Torch on the squad, constitute a version of the team unlike any Marvel fans have witnessed before.The heads of Iron Man, his protégé Ironheart, andX-Men’sForge all co-exist attached to one robot body,the chestplate of which is painted with the Four’s signature logo.
It is a fascinating idea, one which is unfortunately only fleetingly exploredGodzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe#2, as Godzilla finishes off the Human Torch and the rest ofthe future Fantastic Fourin short order. The character concept takes the idea of multiple heads being better than one literally, and in the process just gave Marvel a new smartest hero.

Readers Want More Of The Tony-Riri-Forge Combo
On their own accord, Tony Stark, Riri Williams, and Forge rank among Marvel’s most formidable minds, and the result of combining them is theoretically unparalleled in Marvel history, at least in terms of raw intellectual power. In another context, this version of the trio could do some truly remarkable, groundbreaking things.
However, their role inGodzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe#2 is a glorified cameo. It introduces the idea of the Tony-Riri-Forge hybrid, but ultimately, the focus of the issue, as the title suggests, is on the King of Monsters. By design, Marvel’s greatest heroes are reduced tocanon fodder for the legendary Kaiju.
This is part of the miniseries’ appeal, of course, but it is fair to say that this unexpected new take on theFantastic Fourhas immediately left fans wanting more. As such, it is possible thatMarvelcould return to the concept of combining these characters into one in another future storyline, in order to more fully explore their unified potential.
