Warning! This post contains a preview for Star Wars #6

Luke Skywalker’supcomingStar Warsdesign will blow fans’ minds. Set during the New Republic Era after the Battle of Jakku, Marvel’sStar Warscomic explores the galaxy’s return to democracy, which is not without its struggles. As such, an epic new look for Luke has just been revealed, the galaxy’s lone Jedi Knight during this period.

Luke and Han dressed as Stormtroopers

In the first three issues of Marvel’sStar Wars, the worlds of the Fenril Sector are resisting the New Republic, cutting off trade and using pirates to defend their borders. It’s also been hinted that they may be using Clone Wars defenses.Keeping that in mind, Luke Skywalker’s upcoming design is shaping up to be an exciting reveal forStar Warsfans.

Luke Skywalker is About To Wear Clone Trooper Armor In Star Wars' Future

As revealed by the new Marvel Comics solicitations for October, the cover for the upcomingStar Wars #6,Luke Skywalker is surprisingly wearing a set of clone trooper armor from the Clone Wars.

Naturally, this is quite a twist, especially because the galaxy-wide conflict known as the Clone Wars occurred decades before the events of the New Republic Era. During the Clone Wars, Luke’s father was still alive and leading clones into battle as the Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker.

Battle Droids in Star Wars #3

It’s also worth pointing out that one of the upcoming issue’s variant covers also features Han Solo and thecyborg bounty hunter Beilert Valance, both of whom are shown wearing clone trooper armor right alongside Luke.

Clone Trooper Luke Skywalker Perfectly Blends Original and Prequel Trilogy Nostalgia

The thing that makes Luke Skywalker’s upcoming look so exciting is that it’s a pretty rare bit ofStar Warsfranchise self-reference, with one of the most classic original trilogy heroes donning a set of well-known armor from the prequels. It also works on multiple levels.

Firstly, Luke Skywalker wearing clone armor is a great nod toA New HopewhenLuke and Han wore stormtrooper armor to sneak around the Death Starto rescue Princess Leia. Secondly, it also feels like a pretty strong connection to Luke’s father, Anakin Skywalker.

Anakin Skywalker was one of the Clone Wars' best generals and heroes. He was also very close with several of his clone forces, specifically Captain Rex. Keeping that in mind, it’s worth noting that clone trooper armor appearing on these variant covers has the unique blue accents of the501st Legion, the very same Republic force led by Anakin Skywalker.

Keeping that in mind, it will be very exciting to learn where Luke Skywalker and his allies found clone trooper armor, why they need it, and if Luke will learn the significance of this particular armor, given its history with his father.

This Likely Connects To The New Republic’s Battle Droids

The variant cover featuring a clone trooper helmet and droids in the reflection of the visor is likely a big hint pointing to where Marvel’sStar Warsis headed next.

After all, battle droids in the New Republic erarecently made their debut inStar Wars #3. When a New Republic trading vessel was attacked by pirates and brought down on the planet Loradil within the Fenril Sector, the stranded New Republic forces were shown facing a legion of Clone Wars-era battle droids headed in their direction.

As such, Fenril’s leaders may not only be employing pirates to lock down their borders until their demands of the New Republic government are met, but are also activating old battle droid battalions to defend their interests on the surface.

This also supports the tease in the new solicitation forStar Wars #6, which mentions Luke, Han, and Valance “facing old Clone Wars-era threats”:

Furthermore, it also looks like there may even be a downedRepublic Venatorbehind the droids, suggesting that Loradil may have once been a battleground during the Clone Wars between the Republic and the Separatists.

If so, that would be the perfect place for the New Republic heroes to arm themselves with old clone armor and blasters, once the rescue mission for these survivors begins in the next few issues of Marvel’sStar Wars.

Star Wars #6is set to release on October 1st from Marvel Comics.
