At nearly halfway through the season,Love Island USAhas officially taken over pop culture, but fans on social media and elsewhere are decrying this season’s production interference as too much, especially after the latest Casa Amor twist. DuringLove Island USAseason 7, episode 19, host Ariana Madix let the Islanders know that it was finally time for Casa Amor, where the Islanders would be separated from their partners and allowed to explore connections with a new flock of “boys” and “girls.“Casa Amor is always a highly-anticipated event, as it usually shakes things up in the villa.

Fans took to Reddit to complain about the new Casa Amor rules, with some claiming there’s too much “producer involvement.”

Ariana announced that there would be changes regarding Casa Amor. The girls would go to Casa Amor to meet with the new Casa boys, while the boys would stay in the villa and be joined by new Casa girls. In years past, coupling up was not required, but this year, everyone is required to couple up. Not coupling up could result in being eliminated, as happened with Amaya Espinal.Fans don’t seem to like the new rules, and they took to Reddit (in a thread created byPutJust3171) to complain. Ibelurkinghun claimed this season has “way too much producer involvement.”

What Fan Backlash Means For Love Island USA Season 7

Love Island USA Season 7 Has Been Controversial

Since the global popularity ofLove Island USAseason 6,the pressure has been on to meet the same heights. The pressure is intense, as the show is one of the most widely-discussed right now. Fans love to take to social media after an episode to share their thoughts, or hear other people’s critiques, and there’s been a lot to talk about this year. From controversial contestants likeYulissa Escobar getting removed from the villa, to the wayHuda Mustafa and Jeremiah Brown’s relationshipdominated early episodes,Love Island USAhas weathered the storm the best it can.

SinceLove Islandis filmed nearly in real time, production can really sway the show in the direction fans want, and it feels like that’s what’s happening more this season. This season’s couples have lacked the chemistry that the season 6 couples had, and the only real connection fans have seen were the early days of Huda and Jeremiah. Now that those two are done and Jeremiah was eliminated,Love Island USAis left with a group of people who seem to have friend-zoned each other, and the producers are adding these twists in hopes of helping more Islanders find love.

Our Take On Fans Complaining About “Too Much Producer Involvement”

The Producer Involvement Is Felt This Season

Fans have a right to be irkedby too much producer involvement. At this time last season, there were already several viable couples who would make it to the end. This season, there are none. Even the strongest couple, Cierra Ortega and Nic Vansteenberghe, is still open to exploring connections. There hasn’t been as much romance and passion like fans are used to.

Perhaps production is getting involved more to try and save the season. There’s still plenty of time for couples to emerge, as we’re only about halfway throughLove Island USAseason 7, but it’s less likely to happen with original Islanders, and more likely to happen with new Bombshells or Casa boys and girls. There’s a method to production’s madness, in other words.

Production likely feels that by implementing new “required coupling” rules at Casa, as well as the fact that the Casa boys and girls will all go back to the villa together (another twist),this will help strengthen new connections or cause drama in existing ones. Whatever the case, it will be interesting to see how these new twists shake out. Production better know what it’s doing becauseLove Island USAseason 7 needs all the help it can get.

Love Island USAairs new episodes daily (except Wednesdays) at 9 p.m. EDT on Peacock.
