Law & Order: Organized Crimeexpands the popular police procedural franchise, but will the Peacock original series get renewed for season 6? Spun off from the titular franchise that started all the way back in 1990,Organized Crimefollows Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) as he returns from retirement to join the NYPD’s Organized Crime Control Bureau. Instead of being a day-to-day detective in the Special Victims Unit, Stabler’s new gig sees him going after organized crime in the city while still reeling from the murder of his wife.

A stark departure from previousLaw & Orderspinoffs,Organized Crimefollows a case-per-season format instead of weekly stories. This allows the series to explore Stabler’s personal journey on the path to justice and opens the door to telling more compelling narratives over multiple episodes. It’s difficult to imagine aLaw & Orderseries struggling, butOrganized Crimeseason 5 had a unique path to the small screen. Though it was renewed swiftly,it was downgraded to a Peacock original series, and now streams instead of airing on NBC. This change puts season 6 on thin ice for now.

Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 6 Is Not Confirmed

The Streaming Spinoff Hasn’t Been Renewed Yet

Even though theLaw & Orderfranchise is one of TV’s most successful properties, the series typically wait for renewal each year. As such,Law & Order: Organized Crimehasn’t been renewed for a sixth season yet, and it will likely take a while for the order to come down from NBC. In previous years, the show was renewed alongsideSVUand the flagship series, but that trend is a lot less certain since the show jumped to Peacock. This change of venue also sawOrganized Crimemiss its fall premiere window, and it came in as a midseason addition in early 2025.

…the network TV audience it did have might not follow it to Peacock, and it risks alienating the fanbase who doesn’t stream.

The decision to move the show to Peacock was a sign that it wasn’t moving the needle on NBC proper, but it remains to be seen if that change will help things. The overarching nature of each season’s narrative does make it more akin to a streaming series, and it eschews the case-of-the-week format that typifies network TV procedurals. However, the network TV audience it did have might not follow it to Peacock, and it risks alienating the fanbase who doesn’t stream. Regardless, the fate ofLaw & Order: Organized Crimeseason 6 will remain in limbo for the time being.

Law & Order: Organized Crimeseason 5 premiered on June 10, 2025, and concluded on July 16, 2025.

Will Stabler Return For Another Case?

Since the spinoff is essentially built around his character,it stands to reason that Christopher Meloni will be returning as Detective Elliot StablerinLaw & Order: Organized Crimeseason 6. The popularLaw & Ordercharacter has been part of the franchise for decades, and it’s hard to see the spinoff going anywhere without him. Likewise, the possibility of crossovers withStabler’s close friend and former co-worker Olivia Benson(played by Mariska Hargitay) is one of the big selling points for the series.Organized Crimehas also added Dean Norris as Stabler’s brother, Randall, and there’s no reason to think he won’t be back.

Though each season employs a new roster of guest stars to flesh out the cast, Stabler’s team has remained consistent over the years.Danielle Moné Truitt plays the role of Sergeant Ayanna Bell, and she works closely with Stabler on the cases. Rick Gonzalez plays the role of Detective Bobby Reyes, who often works undercover for the OCCB. On the other hand, Ainsley Seiger’s hacker-turned-cop, Detective Jet Slootmaekers, departed during season 5 and will not be a part of the main cast in season.

The main cast ofLaw & Order: Organized Crimeseason 6 will likely include:

Dean Norris

Randall Stabler

Because the series is built around Stabler, his family has become a big part of the show as well, which means the actors playing his children will likely remain recurring characters in season 6, though not part of the main cast. Maureen (Autumn Mirassou), Elizabeth (Kaitlyn Davidson), Eli (Nicky Torchia), and Dickie (Jeffrey Scaperrotta) are all likely to be back. The most likely to appear is Kathleen (Allison Siko) who has actually made the most appearances of any of the Stabler childrenacross the franchise.

While Mariska Hargitay has been theSVUcast member most likely to appear inLaw & Order: Organized Crimebecause of her connection to Stabler, anSVUcrossover also seems to be possible for Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish). The character is returning toSVUfull-time in the new season, and the writers would be smart to utilize the character as much as they can since fans have been clamoring for her return since she left.

Another Challenging Case For Stabler & The Team

Season 5’s plot will not carry over intoLaw & Order: Organized Crimeseason 6, so it’s tough to predict exactly what will happen. Each season has had an overarching case that pushes Stabler and his team to their absolute limits, and that’s expected to continue in future episodes as well. However, season 5 also finds the seasoned detective going against his own moral code, andseason 6 could explore the fallout of Stabler finally going too far.

There is also always the lingering possibility of Richard Wheatley, the man suspected of killing Eliot’s wife, returning to the show. Though he is in a seemingly fatal car accident in his last appearance in the series, his body is never found, and actor Dylan McDermott, who plays the character, recently saw his series,FBI: Most Wanted, come to an end, so the stars might align for a return. That could also play into Stabler’s increasingly difficult time on the job.

Despite so much focus on Stabler as the face of the show,Christopher Meloni has also expressed how much he would like to see the series become more of an ensemble piece(viaCollider):

I hope it’s something that pushes the boundaries, provocative storytelling in this crime-family drama. I hope all the actors that surround me have a larger slice of the pie because I think ensemble pieces appeal to me. I think there is more room to tell stories in the dynamic and relationships.
