The Last of Us 2is one of the most anticipated games that Sony hasin its lineup for the future. After the phenomenal success and impact of the first game, the pressure is on for the sequel to reach the same heights or even surpass that of the original.
One of the game’s leading actors Troy Baker, who plays Joel, said that he recently had the chance to either see or go hands-on with a playtest ofThe Last of Us 2and came away with nothing but positive things to say:
“It’s a fantastic story. It’s a fantastic game. We just finished a playtest. It’s looking awesome. I can’t for it to be on shelves.”
The game’s developer, Naughty Dog, has yet to announce a release date for the game, but some have speculated that it could release this fall. While others are predicting it to launch in late 2019, at the earliest. There may be an official announcement at E3 this June, but for now, the last official word from Naughty Dog was thatThe Last of Us 2was about 60% completeas of four months ago.
During the press interview given at MCM Comic Con Birmingham where Baker calledThe Last of Us 2"awesome," Baker also shared that the experience of going back toThe Last of Usfranchise with a sequel was “heavy.” He said that the first game didn’t end on the happiest of notes and that the weight of the game’s narrative returned immediately upon stepping into the role again.
Baker also said that the game’s creative director and writer, Neil Druckmann is writing “honestly” and is focusing on delivering a grounded and genuine story without trying to deliver what fans may be wanting or expecting from a sequel (In fact, Druckmann said in the past that evenEllie and Joel are not safefrom being killed in the game’s story). Baker said that the developers are makingThe Last of Us 2a game “we want to play” and believe that doing so will deliver an experience that is truly special for the player.
The Last of Us 2will release exclusively on PS4. A release date has yet to be announced.
