For months, the greatest mystery surroundingJohn Wick Hex, thevideo game debut of theJohn Wickfilm franchise, was when it was going to be released. That’s no longer the case, because Lionsgate and publisher Good Shepard Entertainment have announced via a new trailer that the game will be out on October 8.

TheJohn Wickfranchise has been making its presence felt in gaming for the last few years now, most prominently throughJohn Wick-themed skins inFortnite, but this will mark the first time fans of Keanu Reeves’ professional assassin will be able to dive into his world directly. But it won’t be as they Jmight expect. While one could easily assume aJohn Wickgame would be a fast-paced shooter, what they’re actually getting is a turn-based strategy game more akin to something likeXCOM.

Developed by Bithell Games, the studio behind games likeVolumeandThomas Was Alone,John Wick Hexwas made “in close cooperation” with the films' creative teams. This means that, despite the more methodical gameplay style, players will still get to experience action that feels lifted from aJohn Wickmovie in a game that will play like “fight-choreographed chess brought to life.”

“Each action you choose has risks and consequences, and each weapon changes the tactics at hand. Ammo is finite and realistically simulated, so time your reloads and make the most of the tools you find on the job.”

Tying all this together will be an original storyline presented with a “unique graphic noir art design” and sporting performances by Ian McShane and Lance Reddick reprising their roles from the films. Joining them will be Troy Baker, who will play the game’s antagonist, Hex. Alas, no word has been given on whetherpotential person-of-the-year Keanu Reeveswill be doing the voice of John Wick.

Originally slated to come out for both PC and consoles,John Wick Hexwill now be available exclusively on theEpic Games Storefor the price of $19.99. Before then, on October 5, Bithell Games chief Mike Bithell and other guests will host a panel at New York Comic Con to discuss the game and delve into the process of bringingJohn Wickinto the realm of video games.
