Netflix’sHeartstoppermovie gets an encouraging update from star Joe Locke. Based on Alice Oseman’s webcomic of the same name,the fan-favorite teen dramedy has so far run for three seasons. It tracks the blossoming love story between Charlie (Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor), as well as the trials and tribulations of their teen years.
In lieu of a fourth season, Netflix hasgreenlit aHeartstoppermoviethat will bring the story to a close.Filming began back in June, with Oseman providing updates on its progress on social media. It is assumed most of the core cast will return alongside Locke and Connor.
Speaking withBBC Newsto share the announcement of his West End debut,Locke provided his own update about theHeartstoppermovie. He revealed where the movie is in the filming process and shared his own brief thoughts on the ending itself, saying:
It’s going great, we’re almost two thirds of the way through shooting now, and everything, touch wood, is going well. We’re having a great time doing it, it’s a really nice closing chapter of the story.

Nick And Charlie Could Return By The End Of 2025
With Locke confirming filming is nearing its end,it seems likely thatHeartstopperwill wrap by the end of summer. If Oseman, who also penned the script for the movie and serves as a producer, and director Wash Westmoreland are able to finish post-production soon after, the movie could premiere as early as the end of this year.
This isn’t outside the realm of possibility, as the previousthree seasons ofHeartstopperwere all spaced roughly a year apart, even with Locke and Connor becoming increasingly busy with other projects. The franchise isn’t one that requires a lot of special effects, sopost-production should move smoothly.
SinceHeartstopperbegan, Locke and Connor have appeared in high-profile projects such asAgatha All Along,Warfare, and Broadway’sRomeo and Juliet.
IfHeartstopperdoesn’t arrive by the end of 2025, thenit will likely premiere in early 2026. Though the occasion will be somewhat bittersweet since it is the end, it sounds like fans will have much to look forward to. Locke’s positive words suggest it will be a satisfying conclusion to Nick and Charlie’s story.

It Sounds Like A Satisfying End
Since its premiere in 2022,Heartstopperhas been one of my favorite ongoing shows, and though I would’ve loved to see a season 4, it is a relief that it will receive a conclusive ending. The movie will be based on the sixth volume of the webcomic, which will also be its last. In other words,the adaptation is ending when it should.
Locke’s uplifting update gives me hope that the movie will be everything we want it to be. Even better,it seems the creative team is pleased with the ending as well, which isn’t always a given when it comes to finales. IfLocke and everyone else involved withHeartstopperare happy, then the fans should be as well.
