Spider-Man: Far From Homemay have just premiered in theaters (and dominated the holiday weekend box office), but that doesn’t mean theSpider-ManPS4 game has just dropped off the face of the world. In fact, not only doesSpider-Man: Far From Homehave aSpider-ManPS4 Easter egg, butJeopardyalso referenced the popular open-world adventure game in a recent episode.
In the episode, host Alex Trebek is asking one of the contestants to identify the graphic logo of the PlayStation and name drops theSpider-ManPS4 game in the question. Any PS4 exclusive, likeGod of WarorDays Gone, would have likely worked to differentiate the logo from other gaming consoles, but it appears that the Jeopardy host thoughtSpider-Manwould work better.
This doesn’t come as a surprise thanks to the resurgence of Marvel popularity with the MCU, the fact that it is the fastest selling Marvel and Superhero-based video game, one of the best selling games of 2018, and one of the best games period of last year. Appearing onJeopardyis just the latest in a long line of accolades for Insomniac Games’Spider-ManPS4 title, with Insomniac community director James Stevenson being one who caught the aforementioned shout-out (as seen below).
While appearing onJeopardymay seem like a trivial thing, there has only ever been a handful of games referenced on the show. About two years ago,Jeopardy featured a question aboutThe Last of Us, which showcased how the contestants weren’t really gamers, as they couldn’t connect the popular title to the phrase, “Ellie kicks some zombie butt in this Naughty Dog game.” So, it’s worth mentioning that the aforementionedSpider-Manrelated question about the PlayStation logo was answered correctly.
The Last of Usquestion isn’t the only video game-related question to ever be missed, though, as there was one episode whereJeopardycontestants utterly failed to answer video game questions. Most of the games in question were mainstream and with popularity on par withSpider-Manas well, consisting of titles likeDestiny 2, The Elder Scrolls, Joust, Fortnite, andDisney Infinity(with the latter being the only one answered correctly).
