What This Means For Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2
Horizon Chapter 2 Is Still On The Shelf
New Line Cinema pulledChapter 2from its initial release date afterChapter 1’s disappointing box office performance, having only earned $38 million against a $100 million production budget for two films. Since then, there hasn’t been much update on the sequel’s theatrical release. In a previous interview withScreenRantin May,Horizonstar Isabelle Fuhrman (Diamond), shared a similar comment, revealing that she hasn’t heard much aboutChapter 2’s release date or the filming for the future installments.
It seems that despite Costner’s efforts to push for a 2025 release window, there’scurrently no word on the project pastChapter 1. On the other hand, Huston’s high praise echoes Fuhrman’s comment about the sequel and some of the critical reviews about the sequel, though overall reception continues to be mixed.Horizon: Chapter 2currently has a 54% Rotten Tomatoes score, which is only 3% better thanChapter 1’s divisive reception.
Our Take On Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 2’s Delay
A Few Factors Are Working Against Chapter 2’s Release
Despite being Kevin Costner’s passion project,Horizonhas attracted some negative press since the first movie’s release. Following its box-office disappointment, the movie series has also gotten itself wrapped up in legal entanglement. Costner and producers were sued by a stunt double over an unscripted sexual assault scene, while more recently, United Costume Corporation sued Costner’s company for unpaid costume fees, creating even more uncertainty aboutChapter 2’s fate.
It makes sense why the film might be taking some time to be released, if it ever will, but it sounds like Huston remains optimistic, having seen the sequel. WhileHorizonisn’t widely loved by the critics, it does havea fresh audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, which suggests thatHorizon: An American Saga -Chapter 2, following the first movie’s storyline and format, could also do very well among viewers. However, it seems that fans will have to wait a little to hear more about the sequel.
