The controversialIon Fury, a game made by and for fans ofDuke Nukem 3D, has been extremely well received within the niche of retro first-person shooter fans. It’s now been close to two years sinceIon Furywas released, however, and many players have been wondering when developer Voidpoint will deliver more. The answer, it seems, is soon. Today publisher 3D Realms and Voidpoint revealed Aftershock, a major DLC expansion coming toIon Furysummer 2021.
All that’s known aboutAftershockcan be seen in the DLC’s newly released trailer. Protagonist Shelly is back and she’s got a host of weapons and toys to take down armies of whatever steps in her way. Main antagonist Professor Jadus Heskel, voiced by Duke Nukem voice actorJon St. John, also is said to be returning. The trailer teases that Shelly will finally take Heskel “down for good” inAftershock. What surprises lay in store remain to be discovered.

Ion Furyfans have known that an expansion for the game is in development since this past year. 3D Realms announced during its Realms Deep event that Voidpoint was working on moreIon Furycontent. A teaser trailer was then released just before the new year. This is the official first confirmation of theAftershockexpansion and its release window, however. It’s possible that little has been shown ofAftershockin order to avoid a similar controversyIon Furyfaced at launch over theinclusion of bigoted jokes that the dev team publicly refused to self-censor.
There’s lots more tentatively planned from 3D Realms in 2021 beyondIon Fury: Aftershock. Slipgate Ironworks' fantasy FPSGravenis planned for 2021, as is Ivar Hill’s first-person RPGCore Decayand the remastered version ofSiN. 2021 has the opportunity to be3D Realms' new renaissance era.
