Temuera Morrison has opened up aboutBoba Fett’s uncertain future inStar Warsand the fate ofThe Book of Boba Fett. Despite Morrison’s triumphant return as Boba FettinThe Mandalorianseason 2, the character’s storyline faltered in his spinoff show,The Book of Boba Fett. While the issues with that seven-episode series had nothing to do with Morrison’s work – the pacing, double timelines, and Din Djarin and Grogu’s prominent inclusion shifted the focus from Boba and his partner, Fennec Shand –his character has nevertheless been stuck in limbo.
ThoughThe Book of Boba Fettwas never officially canceled (The Acolytewas the firstStar Warsshow to suffer that fatein the trades), there has been no word on a potential second season, having been billed as a limited series. In a recentinterview withCollider,Morrison spoke about his desire forThe Book of Boba Fettseason 2and where he believes his character, or at least his character’s face, could turn up next.

“Where [is] The Book of Boba Fett season 2? Where the hell is season 2? I know they’re doing Ahsoka season 2. I’m going, ‘Ah, where’s my season 2?’ I’m trying to ring them up. Can I be [clone trooper Captain] Rex and take his helmet off, please?”
He also revealed that he spoke with the creative minds behindThe Mandalorian, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, at this year’sStar WarsCelebration, and that there were“whispers”of an idea for Boba Fett’s and Morrison’s future role inStar Wars.
“Dave and Jon, I actually ran into them at Celebration. You know what it’s like when you see guys, they got a look on their faces, and there’s so much going on. And I go, ‘Hey, hey, hey. Remember Boba Fett’ We had a big hug. And at the end of the day, I said, ‘Look, look, I’m not sure what’s going on with you guys, but anyway, I had a great time. Thank you so much.'”
…They kind of said, ‘Well, well,’ they didn’t want to say too much, put it that way. There was a few whispers of – they didn’t want to say too much – but they just left it at that."
Overall, while Morrison would understandably jump at the chance to reprise his role as Boba or any of the galaxy’s numerous clone troopers, he’s happy to wait for the right opportunity. As Morrison put it, he’s being“preserved for a later date.”
“So it made me feel like, did you go to grandma’s house? And she had that preservative jar of peaches up on the shelf. That’s what I think. I’m one of those peaches, and I’ve been put up on the shelf. I’ve been preserved for a later date, and I’m going to be tastier. So yeah. So anyway, that’s all that’s happening. That’s all I’ve heard. I know they’re doing Ahsoka 2. Geez, I needed it to be in that Andor. What a show, Andor.”
Could Boba Fett Return In The Mandalorian And Grogu?
There were rumors that Boba Fett would return inThe Mandalorianseason 4. This would have made perfect sense for his character and Din Djarin’s developing circle of close allies, as Boba and Din fought together on Tatooine inThe Book of Boba Fett. However, there’s no word on whetherThe Mandalorianwill be officially renewed for season 4, as Din and Grogu’s story will be continued on the big screen instead. The Mandalorian and Groguwill pick up whereThe Mandalorianseason 3 left off, with Din Djarin working as a ranger for the New Republic.
That doesn’t necessarily mean Boba Fett couldn’t be in the upcoming movie, though if so, Lucasfilm and Morrison are keeping his inclusion tightly under wraps. So far, the only confirmed names are Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, Steve Blum, and Jonny Coyne. Ming-Na Wen, who plays Boba’s right-hand enforcer, Fennec Shand, recently confirmed she wouldn’t be in the movie, either, andwhere Boba goes, Fennec goes, so it seems unlikely Morrison will be part ofStar Wars’ first foray back into theaters since 2019.
Our Take On Boba Fett’s Star Wars Future
Given the importance of theNew Republic timelineinStar Wars’current storytelling, it would be a shame to let Boba Fett’s character go to waste after all that work to bring him back. Though a second shot atThe Book of Boba Fettcould help redeem the character’s storyline, there’s no reason Morrison couldn’t return for a hypothetical fourth season ofThe Mandalorianor Dave Filoni’s announced yet untitled secondMandalorian-related film.
Let’s hopeStar Warsdoesn’t forget about Morrison’s legendary bounty hunter, who deserved better asThe Book of Boba Fett’s title character.
As the threat of the Imperial Remnant looms over the galaxy and Grand Admiral Thrawn makes his first move against the New Republic, Din Djarin and Grogu will need all the allies they can get. Why not send for some friends stuck on Tatooine? Let’s hopeStar Warsdoesn’t forget about Morrison’s legendary bounty hunter,Boba Fett, who deserved better asThe Book of Boba Fett’s title character.
