We’re just ten months away from what might be the most anticipated game of all time:Grand Theft Auto 6. It’s hopefully releasing on June 11, 2025, and as someone who has spent over450 hours 100% completing everyGTAandRed Dead Redemptiongame, I’m really excited. However, there is an interesting choice to make regarding which platform to playGTA 6on.

GTA 6will not be released on PC at launch, only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Judging from new rumors, the PlayStation 5 Pro will likely be the best way to playGTA 6when it arrives next May,but don’t count out Xbox. While Rockstar Games has confirmed nothing, a transfer process system forGTA Online, and the ability to stream your own game on Xbox would definitely make the Xbox version worth getting as well.

PS5 Pro Will Be The Best Platform To Play GTA 6

60 Fps Is King

Before the recent rumors, it was already assumed by most that the best platform forGTA 6would be the PlayStation 5 Pro, given it’sthe most powerful console on the markettoday. Earlier this year, it seemed unlikely that 60fps would be achieved, but with the console primarily serving as a graphical upgrade over the base hardware, the game would at least look its best on the PS5 Pro.

However, the new rumors change all of that. On July 18, reliable insiderDetectiveSeeds, over on X, stated thatGTA 6was consistently hitting 60fps on the PS5 Pro and that it would bethe only console with a 60fps option. He stated that the exclusive 60fps option could change later, but this is a telling sign of how wellGTA 6will perform on the most powerful console available.

Even though nothing’s been confirmed, just looking at the optics of how powerful the PS5 Pro is, it’s undoubtedly the best platform forGTA 6at launch. Playing onPS5 Pro will likely look and run the best, and is the optimal way to experience Jason and Lucia’s story. You should playGTA 6on PS5 Pro, but if you mainly playGTAon Xbox, you might speak a different tone.

Will GTA Online Data Transfer To GTA 6?

It’s Certainly Possible

WhileGTA 5features a single-player story mode, a significant portion of the game’s playtime is consumed byGTA Online. A massively evolving live-service title that has been ongoing for nearly 12 years, it’s a phenomenal experience that has an ocean-sized amount of content at this point. I’ve put dozens of hours intoGTA Online, but on Xbox.

If Rockstar implements this, I’m definitely gettingGTA 6on Xbox.

Xbox is my preferred platform forGTAand thebest way to prepare forGTA 6, as you can play all of the 3D installments, includingGTA 4. I think it’s very likely that, given the amount ofplaytime millions of players have investedin this game, Rockstar will have some sort of transfer process intoGTA OnlineforGTA 6.

Maybe it will be a full character transfer, or perhaps you’ll simply receive bonuses and rewards for transferring yourGTA Onlinedata. If Rockstar implements this, I’m definitely gettingGTA 6on Xbox for the newGTA Onlineexperience. I would love for certain aspects to carry over, like vehicles or even awards you earned previously, that players can see while viewing others' stats.

I never got the wildly hardMasterminds achievement inGTA 5for completing all the Criminal Mastermind challenges in The Doomsday Heist, but it would be awesome if others could see that award inGTA 6. If this transfer process is in place, I don’t want tostart from scratch on PS5, and I assume Xbox players would think the same.

Cloud Support On Xbox Could Be A Huge Deal

No Console Required

Another major potential advantage of the Xbox version ofGrand Theft Auto 6is Xbox’s “stream your game” feature. With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you canstream select purchased games on any supported device, including the PC.GTA 6won’t be on PC at launch, and even if you don’t own an Xbox console, you can still purchaseGTA 6on the Xbox website with your Microsoft account.

GTA 5never had an actual Xbox PC port until recently, so things are looking up for a potential Xbox stream your own game inclusion.

With the purchase made, youcan streamGTA 6on PC, and this would be a massive deal if it happens. Sure, cloud gaming isn’t for anyone, butGTA 6likely won’t be a super-intense game you’d want to play natively, likeNinja Gaiden 4, for example.

Xbox’s stream your own game feature hasseen significant support in 2025, with big games likeAssassin’s Creed Shadows,Cyberpunk 2077, andFinal Fantasy 16being added to the program. To boot, Xbox recently teamed up with Rockstar to releaseGTA 5on Xbox Game Passfor both console and PC.

GTA 5never had an actual Xbox PC port until recently, so things are looking up for a potential Xbox stream your own game inclusion forGTA 6. As a primary Xbox gamer, depending on how things unfold, I plan to getGTA 6on both platforms. I’ll playGTA 6’sstory mode on the PS5 Pro, while playing the newGTA Onlineon Xbox. I think Xbox players should look out for these discussed features before making their purchase.
