Although the ending ofSullivan’s Crossingseason 3 was undeniably explosive, I’m still worried that it means the show will soon end up revisiting a tired plot line all over again. The first three seasons ofSullivan’s Crossinghave categorically put Maggie and Cal through the wringer despite the CW show’s reputation as a cozy drama.
As such, it would be reasonable to assume thatSullivan’s Crossingseason 4might finally grant the pair some peace and quiet after the drama of Maggie’s failed engagement to Andrew and season 3 health issues. However, this is not what’s on the cards, judging by theending ofSullivan’s Crossingseason 3’s finale.

Sullivan’s Crossing’s Cal-Maggie-Andrew Love Triangle Lasted Far Too Long
One Maggie-Centric Love Triangle Already Outstayed Its Welcome
After Maggie successfully performed brain surgery on Edna, Cal was pressed. He began to question whether he was right to have brought Maggie to Timberlake with him when she so clearly yearns to return to the operating table as a superstar surgeon. Fortunately, Maggie soon set him straight, revealing she was happy with him and practicing medicine, not necessarily being a neurosurgeon.
Liam, a previously unseen figure Maggie dubbed a “Summer fling,” now seems like he will be central to the show’s next love triangle.

All was well withSullivan’s Crossing’s central couplefor a couple of consecutive seconds before a mystery man appeared and announced that he was Maggie’s secret husband. Liam, a previously unseen figure Maggie had waved off as a “summer fling,” now seems like he just set up the show’s next love triangle.
Sullivan’s Crossingwas renewed for season 4 in early June 2025.
The only problem is that viewers have seen this story before. The first two seasons ofSullivan’s Crossingalready followed the Cal-Maggie-Andrew love triangle, and savvy viewers will recall that this plot was dragged out for far too long.

Even without the looming threat of another mystery lover emerging in season 4, the Andrew storyline was already tired and uninspired. Maggie and Cal were clearly always endgame, so keeping the pair apart with clumsy plot mechanics ironically only made their eventual reunion more predictable and underwhelming.
Liam’s Sudden Introduction Sets Up Sullivan’s Crossing Season 4 For Another Misguided Love Triangle
Liam’s Arrival Is Another Roadblock For Maggie and Cal’s Love Story
The repetitive nature of the Andrew plot got really annoying, so the last moments of the season 3 finale ending with the revelation that Maggie apparently has a secret husband is disheartening at best. Sully’s growth inSullivan’s Crossingseason 3 saw him eventually embark on a trip to Ireland, proving that the series can do low-stakes, poignant character development when it wants to.
As such, having this man of mystery show up out of nowhere and reveal that he is, inexplicably, Maggie’s husband is a frustrating twist. It’s setting up another love triangle inSullivan’s Crossingseason 4, which would just be more of the same tired tropes that viewers are understandably growing sick of seeing from the CW show at its most stagnant.
