HBO Max CEO and content chairperson Casey Bloys recently revealed the streaming service’s plans forThe Pittand spoke about the possibility of spinoff shows. WhileThe Pittseason 2was confirmed shortly after theending ofThe Pittseason 1, many fans have wondered about the possibility of spinoff shows. Characters like Dr. Abbot seem prime to lead their own series. HBO Max, however, isn’t focused on it.
During an interview withVariety,Casey Bloys said that HBO Max hasn’t even begun to consider making spinoff shows based onThe Pittyet.

“No, no, no, no. Have not gotten there yet. I think getting the show right and getting it out will be the priority for now. We have not had any conversations about any other spin offs.”
Despite buzz about apotential “night shift” spinoff focusing on Shawn Hatosy’s character, Bloys' comments make it clear that the creators ofThe Pittaren’t thinking too far ahead. As he said, the priority isThe Pittseason 2, and any potential spinoff shows are a question for the future. Bloys also spoke aboutThe Pitt’s 13Emmy nominations for 2025.
It’s also worth noting that Bloys' comments, while they do emphasize thatThe Pittisn’t actively working on any spinoff shows, don’t actually preclude the idea. It’s entirely possible thatThe Pittcould get a spinoff show in a few years, once the yearly release schedule is more established and the show has a more dedicated fanbase that would translate over to a new series.
What The Pitt’s Spinoff Chances Mean For HBO Max’s Medical Drama
The Door Is Still Open For Future The Pitt Spinoffs, But The Focus Will Be On The Main Show For Now
Casey Bloys' comments aboutThe Pitt’s potential spinoff shows highlight one thing most of all: the creators ofThe Pitthave their full attention on the main show right now.The prospect of creating a Dr. Abbot spinoff or a new show about another type of first responder in the same vein as theOne Chicagofranchise are distant ideas forThe Pitt.
That should mean thatThe Pittseason 2 will get the same attention and care that the first season got. R. Scott Gemmill and the other writers aren’t being distracted by new story ideas and shows. All they care about creatively isThe Pitt, which means the original series is going to get all their best stuff.
Of course, the door is also open forThe Pittto expand in the future. The Pittdoes have ample room for spinoff shows, from a series focusing on Gerran Howell’s Whittaker and the street team to Dr. Abbot’s night shift. Bloys' comments don’t mean that there will never be a spinoff ofThe Pitt, just that it won’t be here right away.
Our Take On The Pitt’s Lack Of Spinoff Plans
The Pitt Is Making The Right Call: Focus On The Main Show & Let Spinoffs Come Later
I honestly think that Casey Bloys and the creators ofThe Pitthave made exactly the right call here. The Pitt, though it was a breakout hit, still only has one season. It’s way too early forThe Pittto be thinking about spinoff shows. It’s better forThe Pittto continue this hot streak, find its footing even more, and establish a big, dedicated following of viewers before trying to expand.
While I would like to see a spinoff focusing on Dr. Abbot, I’d much rather seeThe Pittcontinue to find success and be the long-running series HBO Max wants it to be.The best way to do that, I think, is to have some really strong early seasons, and ignoring the prospect of spinoffs is the best way to ensure that happens. Hopefully,The Pittwill then last long enough to do as many spinoffs as it wants.
