It’s been quite a while since we’ve known about the forthcomingHaloTV series beingin the works at Showtime, and fans of the science fiction first-person shooter franchise are undoubtedly excited to finally see an episode of the project. While we all wait for that to happen, the good news is that the show has now officially received the green light from the American premium cable and satellite network, with production beginning in early 2019.
Showtime announced Thursday that it has picked up 10 episodes of the live-action scripted series forHalo, with Kyle Killen (Awake) serving as executive producer, writer, and showrunner whileRise of the Planet of the Apesdirector Rupert Wyatt will helm multiple episodes of the series and also serve as an executive producer for the show. The drama is going to produced by Showtime and Microsoft/343 Industries will also count Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television among its producers.
According to Showtime, itsHaloseries will take place in the same universe that launched in 2001, with the fictional television program dramatizing the epic 26th century conflict between humanity and the alien threat known as the Covenant. The network went on to explain thatHalowill tie together “deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future”.
Taking everything into consideration, it will be interesting to see if a title such asHalocan become the first video game property to be successfully adapted to such live-action mediums as film and television, with many projects of its kind often failing to generate much, if any interest from mainstream audiences. Nevertheless, publishers and developers are always looking to have its properties reach as many potential fans as possible, for in addition to Microsoft’s television venture withHalo,Ubisoft’s even talking to Netflix about a new TV series.
