Jon Hamm as Coop looking deep in thought in Your Friends and Neighbors

We’re very far. We’re well ahead in that process. We’ve got eight scripts written, and we’re looking to go into production very soon, like frighteningly soon. In terms of lessons, I think we just learned really where we have to safeguard the tone of the show, and how carefully we have to watch out, that we never veer too far comedic, too far dramatic, that we really maintain that really careful line we’re maintaining of a comedic drama or a dramatic comedy, that puts the characters first. And I think, in post-production, we may have found a few places we had to clean up a little bit with the tone, and that’s the thing we’re really going to watch.

What Tropper’s Comments Mean For Your Friends & Neighbors Season 2

Season 2 Could Arrive Earlier

Thewell-ratedYour Friends & Neighborscurrently only has three episodes out, with its fourth episode expected to arrive on April 25. While news regarding season 2 is scarce, it has been confirmed thatWestworld’sJames Marsden will join the new seasonas a series regular, playing a rich guy having a relationship with Sam (Olivia Munn), who is casually involved with Coop in season 1.

The filming update from Tropper again indicates thatseason 2 is in active development and could arrive sooner than expected. The new Apple TV comedy drama has shown a lot of promise, as not only hasYour Friends & Neighborstopped the charts days after its premiere, but it has also received plenty of praise from critics and viewers alike. In a recent interview, Hamm talked about what drew him to the series in the first place, explaining how Coop showed the part of the American dream thatDon Draper inMad Menwas selling.

If to look at the turnaround time in production withYour Friends & Neighborsseason 1, filming began on the show in April 2024 before premiering a year later on Apple TV+. While he may not have given an exact start date,Tropper’s confirmation points towardYour Friends & Neighborsseason 2 getting an early 2026 premiere. This seems all the more likely given Tropper says there are eight episodes written for season 2, making it slightly shorter than season 1’s nine-episode count.

The Show Is Still Finding Its Rhythm, But What We’ve Seen So Far Is Great

With three episodes out, thehighly rated Apple TV+ serieshas already established itself asone of the most promising series on the streaming platform.Your Friends & Neighborsis comedic and dramatic, but there’s something about it that sets it apart from others, and the answer to that is Coop, who shows a very different side of Jon Hamm and marks the actor’s first series lead role after he concludedMad Men’s run from 2007 to 2015.

Recently, he appeared as the head of an oil company in one season ofTaylor Sheridan’sLandman, but sadly, the role was only for one season. Tropper’s comment suggests thatseason 2 could be even more Coop-centric, which seems like the right move. On another note,Your Friends & Neighbors' swift season 2 update is definitely great news.
