Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct was full of major announcements for upcoming games likeLink’s Awakening,Animal Crossing: New Horizons,and the surprise reveal that asequel toThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildis currently in development. During the Direct, we were also treated to a story trailer forFire Emblem: Three Houses, which is due to release on Nintendo Switch next month.

Co-developed by Intelligent Systems and Koei Tecmo Games,Fire Emblem: Three Housesis the latest installment in Nintendo’s tactical fantasy RPG series releasing exclusively on the Nintendo Switch. InThree Houses, players will take on the role of Byleth, a professor at the Officer’s Academy in Fodlan, “an elite facility that trains students in the ways of weapons, magic, and special skills.”

With theleaked Harry Potter RPGnot making an appearance during the direct,Fire Emblem: Three Housesmight just fill the gap as the game’s setting has often been compared to Hogwarts. Players will be able to choose the name and gender of the main protagonist and move freely throughout sections of the world, interacting with characters to build relationships and gather information.

The Officers Academy is home to three noble houses known as The Black Eagles, The Blue Lions, and The Golden Deer, and the player must choose one house to lead the students into battle. Three main characters – Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude – will each have a prominent role inFire Emblem: Three Housesstory, as the heirs to each of the three houses.

Fire Emblem: Three Housesis due to release one week after another major first-party Nintendo title,Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Orderwhich received its owntrailer during the Nintendo Direct. While the series has a hardcore fan base, it will be interesting to see how the latest entry in the turn-based fantasy series is received by the mainstream audience, especially releasing so close to the unstoppable juggernaut that is Marvel.
