My Hero Academia: Vigilantesisn’t wasting any time drawing in familiar characters that fans know, and the next episode preview has already revealed who’s on the way next: Ingenium, AKA Tensei Iida. Fans have seen the character briefly already, but it’s finally time to get to know the original holder of the hero name.
Tensei is the older brother of Tenya Iida, a friend of Midoriya’s and the class rep for Class 1-A. Those who’ve watchedMy Hero Academiawill no doubt remember that Tensei was attacked bythe Hero Killer, Stain, putting an end to his hero career for good. This sent Tenya Iida on a quest for revenge, and he only barely ended up being saved by Midoriya and Todoroki after confronting the hero killer on his own. While the kids eventually take down Stain, Tensei’s injuries remain far too serious to risk performing hero work again, signaling that it’s time he retired and passed the Ingenium name on to Tenya.

The Original Ingenium Was One Cool Guy
Ingenium is a Professional Hero in Every Sense
The preview for episode 4 suggests that Koichi will beencountering Tensei out of his hero costume, allowing them to talk man-to-man instead of hero to vigilante. Tensei seems to recognize Koichi from his time as “Nice Guy,” and may have a few words for him about being a vigilante. Tensei made his debut as Ingenium in episode 3, where he became the first hero on the scene to deal with the Instant Villains created by Kuin Hachisuka. This gave fans their first chance to actually see him in action, as he wasn’t introduced in the main series until after his career-ending wound.
Tensei does have his own hero agency, Team IdaTen, where he has many sidekicks working for him as well. He seems to primarily work in the Naruhata neighborhood, which is where Koichi and his allies are located as well. He’s laid-back and easygoing compared to his uptight brother, making him a very likable figure overall. It’s not hard to see why Tenya looked up to him so much, and why his defeat at the hands of Stain was such a shocking moment. Tensei certainly strikes viewers as a true hero-type, putting people and their suffering first, and working to reassure those he saves.

Fans Will Finally See Tensei’s Good Side
Tensei is a Kind-hearted Hero With Sympathy and Compassion
Up to now, fans have really only had Tenya and Stain’s opinions on Tensei to judge the character by. Now, they’ll get a chance to see the original Ingenium in action, and it will hopefully help them to form their own opinions on the character. Tensei certainly isn’t the glory hog that Stain considered him to be, but he’s also not quite as perfect as Tenya believes him to be, either. In the end, Tensei is just a man who aspires to be a hero, and puts himself at risk to help others. My Hero Academia: Vigilantescan finally introduce this figure properly, and fans can decide for themselves if he deserved his fate.
