The wait between releases of the ambitiousFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeproject has been quite long, but the final part of the remake, and sequel to the acclaimedFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth, may be closer to release than previously thought after a recent update by the game’s lead voice actor. TheFF7 Remakeseries is confirmed to be a trilogy, and the wait betweenRemakeandRebirthwas 4 years, so naturally, fans are eager to get their hands on the final installment of the project.
Cody Christian, voice actor of Cloud, posted an Instagram story of himself in a voice recording booth and captioned the photo with:“so happy to be back with my bestie,“with the photo having a tiny depiction of Cloud himself. The photo from the Instagram story is now gone, but a screenshot of it can be viewed on aResetErapost (viaGamesRadar+).

The timing of voice recording sessions for video games can vary quite a lot, but they usually occur when the game is nearing the end of main development to avoid script changes and leaks. This, of course, is just speculation, andthere is no confirmation on whether voice recording has even begun for the game.
Voice Cast Recordings Have Apparently Started
Could The Game Be Far Along?
There’s been a lot of discussion andspeculation about when the sequel toFF7 Rebirthcould release. But have voice recordings actually begun for the sequel? It’s difficult to say, but given the timing of the Instagram story and actor Cody Christian’s previous roles,it’s definitely a possibility. Christian rose to prominence and acclaim for portraying Cloud Strife inRemakeandRebirth, but his schedule doesn’t seem to be that packed, based on what we know. In 2024, he had two major credits: voice work forFF7 Rebirthand the sixth season of the TV showAll American.
The fact that Christian is indeed in a voice recording booth in 2025could definitely imply he is recording lines for the sequel toRebirth. But it’s also equally likely that it could be a recording for a spin-off, a guest character appearance, or something else altogether.

Could The Wait For FF7 Remake Part 3 Be Shorter?
There Was A Long Wait Between Remake And Rebirth
Director Naoki Hamaguchi previously revealed thata lot of the work on theFF7 Rebirthsequelwas already complete, and that fans can expect to fully pilot the iconic Highwind airship seen in the original game and the end ofFF7 Rebirth. That should be reassuring to some fans, given the almost 4-year wait between the release ofRemakeandRebirth. The development ofFF7 Rebirthwas also partially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which pushed the game’s development cycle to be a bit longer.
WithRebirthestablishing the game’s iconic locations and the general size of the game’s open world, as well as expanding the foundations of a well-received combat system, it seems likely that the development time betweenFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthand the currently unnamed final part of the trilogy will be shorter than the time gap betweenRemakeandRebirth. Hopefully, Christian is indeed recording lines, and the game releases sooner rather than later. In the meantime, some fans may turn to some otherFFentries to play while waitingfor the much-anticipated sequel.
