Final Fantasy 14’s FATE system is ubiquitous throughout the MMORPG’sexpansive and varied world, spawning random quest objectives players can complete for extra gil, experience, and grand company seals.Pocket change and spare experiencearen’t all FATEs are good for, however, with every expansion so far featuring two rare boss FATEs yielding exclusive rewards for completing them.

Rare boss FATEs are unique FATEs that don’t show up on the player’s main map, only displaying on the smaller mini-map, and often have special spawn conditions or activation effects, such aschanging the zone’s weatheror having variable spawn locations, culminating ina massive boss battleintended for dozens of players to join together and take down as a group. These rare FATEs often have lengthy cooldowns that can last multiple days, making the rewards fairly exclusive. Final Fantasy 14 Behemoth Helm

Behemoth

This level 50 boss spawns at the end of a two-FATE-chain inthe Coerthas Central Highlands, starting with “Behold Now Behemoth” at (X6, Y:21), followed by “He Taketh It with His Eyes” at (X:4, Y:15). Achieving gold-level contribution to the latter FATE will reward players with five Behemoth Horns and the Locking Horns achievement, while silver-level contribution rewards only one horn. Once the FATE has been completed and players have obtained their Behemoth Horns, players can exchange five Behemoth Horns for a variety of rewards by speaking with Aelina, located in Mor Dhona (X:23, Y:7), and selecting the Uncanny Knickknacks dialogue option. The available rewards are:

Odin

Odin is the level 50 boss of the unique FATE “Steel Reign”. Like other rare boss FATEs, Steel Reign does not appear on the main map while it’s active, however, in addition to this, the spawn location for this FATE is randomly selected between 12 possible locations in any of the zoneswithin The Black Shroud(North Shroud, East Shroud, South Shroud, and Central Shroud). In order to assist players in locating this FATE, the weather in all Black Shroud zones will change to Tension while the Steel Reign FATE is active, letting players know when to begin scouting for Odin’s location. Achieving gold-level contribution in this FATE will reward players with the Uncut achievement, as well as five Odin’s Mantles which can be traded with Aelina in Mor Dhona (X:23, Y:7) in the Uncanny Knickknacks menu for the following rewards:

Coeurlregina

This level 60 boss is the target of a three-part FATE-chainin the Dravanian Forelandsstarting with “Long Live the Coeurl” (X:35, Y:25), followed by “Coeurls Chase Boys” (X:27, Y:21), and ending with “Coeurls Chase Boys Chase Coeurls” (X:12, Y:10). While each FATE is active, the zone’s weather will change to Royal Levin, giving players a visual indicator that the FATE has spawned. Completing each FATE in the chain will reward Coeurlregina Horns, with the first FATE rewarding a maximum of one horn, the second FATE rewarding a maximum of three horns, and the last FATE rewarding a maximum of five horns, as well as the achievement Short-lived, the Queen. Players can exchange six total Coeurlregina Horns with Bertana in Idyllshire (X:6, Y:5) in the Uncanny Knickknacks menu for the following rewards:

Noctilucale

Noctilucale is the boss of the level 59 FATE “Prey Online"found in Azys Lla(X:38, Y:18). The FATE is associated with the Hyperelectricity weather condition, however, unlike other FATEs that change the zone’s weather while the FATE is active, “Prey Online” spawns after Hyperelectricity ends. Completing the FATE will reward players with a maximum of three Proto Ultima Exoplatings, five of which can be traded to Bertana in Idyllshire (X:6, Y:5) for theUltima Horns.

Ixion

Ixion is the level 70 boss of the FATE “A Horse Outside” located in The Lochs. Like Odin, the weather of the Lochs will change to Quick Levin while Ixion is active, with the boss appearing in a random location throughout the zone. Additionally, Ixion will spawn with a shield that makes it invulnerable, requiring players to use the Stygian Ash item to dispel it. Stygian Ash can be obtained as a random reward for completing Timeworn Gaganaskin Maps and Timeworn Gazelleskin Maps, as well as purchased from other players via the market board. Defeating Ixion will reward players with the achievement Ride On and a maximum of six Ixion Horns which can be traded to Eschina in Rhaglr’s Reach (X:14, Y:12) under the Wondrous Sundries option for the following rewards:

Tamamo Gozen

Tamamo Gozen is the boss of the level 70 FATE “Foxy Lady” found within Yanxia. The “Foxy Lady” FATE spawns on a random timer of up to 48 hours after completing three prerequisite Yanxia FATEs, More to Offer (X:20, Y:7), Freedom Flies (X:13, Y:31), and Outfoxed (X:31, Y:9). Like Odin, Tamamo Gozen can spawn in a variety of locations throughout the zone, however, unlike Odin, the “Foxy Lady” FATE does not change the zone’s weather while it is active, so players will need to track the FATE manually or pay attention to FATE tracking communities and linkshells if they want to know when the boss has spawned. Defeating Tamamo Gozen will reward players with up to 15 Sassho-seki Fragments along with the achievement Naughty Girls Need Love, as Well. These fragments can be exchanged with Eschina in Rhalgr’s Reach (X:14, Y:12) for the following rewards:

Formidable

Formidable is the level 80 boss of the FATE “A Finale Most Formidable” in Kholusia (X:34, Y:21). This FATE requires players to complete two FATE-chains while also having a lengthy cooldown period. The first of these FATE-chains is the Ironbeard Builders FATE-chain in Kholusia, consisting of:

If either of these FATE-chains loops back to their beginning, it may be an indication that the cooldown for “A Finale Most Formidable” has not yet reset. Defeating Formidable will reward players with up to six Formidable Cogs which can then be exchanged with Fathard in Eulmore (X:10, Y:12) for the following rewards:

Archaeotania

Archaeotania is a level 80 boss in The Tempest associated with the FATE “The Head, the Tail, the Whole Damned Thing” (X:27, Y:26). Like Formidable, Archaeotania spawns at the end of a FATE-chain and features a lengthy internal cooldown, reseting the FATE-chain if it is completed while the cooldown has not yet refreshed. The FATE-chain includes six FATEs excluding the boss itself:

Succesfully completing the boss FATE will reward players with up to 6 Archaeotania’s Horns, as well as the achievement Another World, Another Turn. These horns can then be traded in to Fathard in Eulmore (X:10, Y:12) for the following rewards:

Daivadipa

Daivadipa is the level 90 boss of the FATE “Devout Pilgrims vs. Daivadipa” in Thavnair (X:9, Y:38). to spawn this boss, the FATE must not be on cooldown, and players must complete a short FATE-chain consisting of Devout Pilgrims vs. the Jungle Lizards (X:34, Y:28), and Devout Pilgrims vs. the Apalala (X:23, Y:23). If Daivadipa does not spawn after completing these FATEs, it may be an indicator that it is still on cooldown.

Defeating Daivadipa will reward players with the achievement Don’t Go into the Light, and up to six Daivadipa’s Beads which can be traded to Nesvaaz in Radz-at-Han (X:11, Y:10) under the Out-of-this-world Oddities option for the following rewards:

Chi

Chi is the last rare FATE boss currently inFinal Fantasy 14, spawning as part of the level 90 FATE “Omicron Recall: Killing Order” in Ultima Thule (X:35, Y:22). In order to spawn Chi, players will need to wait for its spawn cooldown to refresh and complete two prerequisite FATEs in Ultima Thule, Omicron Recall: Comms Expansion (X:29, Y:26), and Omicron Recall: Secure Connection (X:33, Y:27). Additionally, the platform Chi spawns on is not connected by land, so players will need to unlock flying in the zone or hitch a ride from another player in order to reach the boss. Successfully completing the FATE will reward players with the achievement Prototypical and up to 6 Chi Bolts, 12 of which can be exchanged with Nesvaaz in Radz-at-Han (X:11, Y:10) under the Out-of-this-world Oddities option to purchase theLevel Checker Identification Key.
