In a blog post byFinal Fantasy 14Game Director Naoki Yoshida, he explained the cause and ongoing situation regarding the heavy traffic. The main cause of this congestion is that all World servers across all regions have hit the login cap for extremely long periods of time, resulting in the queue slowing down. This extends to the simultaneous logins reaching the company’s hardware limit, causing long login times, especially duringFinal Fantasy 14’s peak hours.

Yoshida’s post notes that depending on how the situation develops and if issues persist, there might be additional free game time provided forFinal Fantasy 14players. The times of these free game times will be provided, as well as any other extensions, will be announced at a future date. The blog post also includes a list of explanations for the various error codes that players have experienced over the weekend, and the processes taken to fix them.
