When launchingFIFA 22for the first time, players will be treated to a surprising mini story mode that features two icons, David Beckham and Thierry Henry. Fans can also acquire aspecial kit designed by Beckham inFIFA 22when it releases in just a few days.

Last year, EA spent a lot of effort inmarketing Beckham’s inclusion inFIFA 21. This comprised of renaming the standard edition of the game to Beckham Edition and offering a special card 86-rated David Beckham card to every player that launchedFIFA 21before Jun 13, 2025. This was in addition to his 4 different icon cards that represent various stages of his career. So, it comes as no surprise that Beckham is at the forefront of the mini story mode present inFIFA 22.

This short story, called Welcome toFIFA, starts as soon as players launch the game, but it can be skipped. It shows David Beckham having breakfast in a balcony, before moving on to interactive cutscenes that let fans create an avatar for Volta. It also includes some drills that re-introduce gameplay mechanics and ends with a full playable match ofFIFA 22. Essentially, everything that players experienced when starting a newFIFAgame for the first time has been put together in a mini story mode of sorts. It aims to give players a glimpse of some of the features that have been added while also letting them play around with the new gameplay mechanics.

WhileFIFA 20andFIFA 21shipped with a proper story mode inside Volta, and previous games featured The Journey,FIFA 22will not launch with any sort of a narrative-driven campaign. Instead, EA has focused on adding features and enhancing various aspects of every game mode, includingchanges to Volta as well as Career Mode. It does look like improvements have been made across the board, but Ultimate Team will remain the main competitive game mode ofFIFA 22.

FIFA 22launches on October 1 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
