To playWordle, word puzzle fans will first need to make sure they head to the right place. While it was originally made by an indie dev,Wordlewas purchased by the New York Times back in February 2022. This original version is only hosted on the newspaper’s Games website, andWordlecan also be played on the New York Times Crossword app. Other versions will have different answers and may have slightly different rules than what is listed here.

PlayingWordleis as simple as learning the rules and learning a little strategy, and the most strategy in the game goes into choosing the right kind of starting word. Starting words should be filled with five differentcommon letters toWordlepuzzles. It must be a five-letter-long English word, and it can’t be a proper noun. Avoid previous puzzle answers and plural nouns ending in S. Also,now thatWordlehas an editor, many holidays will have themed words for the day.
Next, type the starting word into the site; press enter. The colors of each letter in the starting word will change colors.
Given these clues, players need to keep trying new words that fit with those hints; each word guessed will give players more hints. Players get six total tries to get to the answer.
