Ubisoftgave its fans at The Game Awards 2018 a treatwhen it announcedFar Cry New Dawnjust months after the release of the most recent entry in the series,Far Cry 5. The announcement was accompanied by a cinematic trailer revealing a post-apocalyptic Hope Country set 17 years after the conclusion ofFar Cry 5. Now, fans are getting a more in-depth look into the forthcoming title’s world with a brand new 6-minute gameplay trailer featuring a familiar face.

The new gameplay footage showsFar Cry New Dawnin its alpha stage, which is to be expected considering it was only announced last week. The notably colorful palette revealed in the announcement trailer is explored here in further detail, marking a new artistic direction for games set in a post-apocalyptic world. Shrubs of pink flowers are a prominent feature of the hilly environment, which happen to be the result of a super-bloom that followed the nuclear event that broughtFar Cry 5to a close.

Despite the flowers and pretty colors, make no mistake–this is still aFar Crygame. The gameplay footage wastes no time getting into the combat sections of the game, showing off a frantic gunplay sequence followed by some vehicle action beforeFar Cry 5’s Pastor Jerome is released from a carriage and introduced as a prisoner.

Unfortunately, while Pastor Jerome will be re-appearing inFar Cry New Dawn, Ubisoft confirmed thatBoomer the dog didn’t survivethe 17-year gap betweenFar Cry 5andNew Dawn. Granted, at the very youngest Boomer would be 17 years old during the events ofFar Cry New Dawn, but that doesn’t make his death any easier for fans of the faithful four-legged companion.

In theme with the new post-apocalyptic setting,Far Cry New Dawnwill add a number of new gameplay additions to keep the series fresh. In addition to a leveling system for enemies and outposts,New Dawnwill also introduceclosed-world adventures called Expeditions, which will give players the opportunity to earn rare loot, upgrade weapons, and make improvements to Prosperity.

Far Cry New Dawnreleases on July 08, 2025 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
