Much of the gaming world has been eagerly anticipating the arrival of Ubisoft’sFar Cry 6. As excited as many are, there have been a few concerns about the PC port of the game. For example, one benchmark test noticedthe newFar Crywould bottleneck the CPU, leaving one of the 16 threads to do the majority of the processing work. On top of that, some additional benchmark tests have been done, with results showing that the game may run better on AMD rather than Nvidia.
In a study conducted by Tom’s Hardware,Far Cry 6was put through a series of hardware tests, using a number of different graphics cards, and with the game running at different settings. Displaying the results in a chart, the benchmark tests suggest that the game has a better framerate on an AMD graphics card. With the top GPU being the RX 6700 XT averaging 146.5 fps for 1080p, and the RX 6800 XT being the top for 1440p, averaging 140.7 fps. These tests were conducted at medium settings. While Nvidia does become stronger the higher the resolution, the results show that a modern AMD card may be better at running the game at 1080p.

This could all tie in with the recent benchmark test which concluded that, even on lower resolutions, one of the CPU threads was being tasked with doing more work than the others. While theconsole versions ofFar Cry 6may be missing ray tracing, it could be a concern for PC players if the game is struggling to meet expectations, especially for gamers who are using high-end systems.
The takeaway from this is that current tests are suggesting there may be some work left to do on the game. Patches and graphics card drivers should iron out any performance kinks, so it’s worth bearing that in mind when the game comes out. After all, no one wants to be disappointed by aFar Cryentry that has a cockfighting mini-game.
