A Bethesda Game Studios creative director teases new connections between theFalloutshow and the video games. TheFalloutfranchise debuted in 1998 with the first game. The series has six main games, with several spinoffs in its post-apocalyptic universe. The TV show doesn’t act as an adaptation of one specific game, but exists within the game canon.Falloutseason 2will release on Prime Video in December 2025.
In an interview withVariety,Fallout 76creative director Jon Rushhints at video game tie-ins to the hit TV series. He notes thatFallout76is the furthest back in the timeline, compared to the show, which is the latest chronologically.

Careful not to spoil anything, Rush teases that the video game team talks with the television team about lining things up with the release of the show. He also says that they try to keep the overlapping between the two mediums “pretty simple.” Check out his quote below:
We’re always focused on the game. I think a distinct trait of the ‘Fallout 76’ game is that we’re the furthest back in time. And it’s kind of funny, because the show’s the furthest into the future. So there’s a lot of room where we don’t necessarily need to overlap. There are some things that we could overlap the stories ,that could exist, but we largely try to keep those pretty simple. So the show is very effective storytelling, great storytelling, very ‘Fallout,’ being made by folks that are big fans of the game and the series, and so are we. The two go together really well.

So folks see the show and want more of that same kind of story, and they’re going to come into ’76,’ they’re going to come into ‘Fallout 4,’ or come into ‘Fallout 3.’ Lining things up with the seasonal releases of the show, it’s stuff that we talk about all the time, and we do have plans for things here and there. I’m not going to go into detail on any of those now, but the two teams do talk to one another.
What This Means For Fallout Season 2
The New Installment Will Share Some Game Connections
Falloutseason 1 was met with positive reviews, partially in part to how faithful the series was to the world of the games. Video game adaptations can still be a mixed bag in terms of quality, but that has generally been shifting in a positive direction in recent years. Shows likeFalloutorThe Last of Ushave proven that games can be successfully translated.
WhileThe Last of Usis a faithful adaptation,Falloutgoes in a different direction by existing in the same universe as the games.Fallout 76takes place in 2102, whilethe show is set almost 200 years later in 2296. Given that the TV show can call back on all of that history, there is plenty of room for easter eggs and other references.
Our Take On The Fallout Update
The Show Has The Right Mix Of References
Falloutseason 1 had plenty of video game easter eggs, and did an excellent job of layering them into the show. The series has the right tone when fitting into the game universe, which is ultimately more important than setting up direct references. The series has so far been able to blend them in a satisfying way, which works for fans of the game and newcomers.
It is exciting to see that the video game team is connecting withFalloutshow, as it helps create a fleshed-out universe. Which game elements will enter season 2 remains to be seen, but they will be something to be on the lookout for whenFalloutreturns in December.
