FollowingFallout 76’s dismal launch last year, there’s no doubt now that the online multiplayer RPG was easily one ofthe most disappointing games of 2018. Since then, it’s safe to say that many believe the title still isn’t up to par when it comes to post-launch support, with a vocal portion of theFO76community asserting that it needs myriad fixes and balance changes to even be considered playable.
With this being the case, it looks as if some stores are having trouble offloading its supplies of theBethesdagame, with GameStop Germany, Austria, and Switzerland being among these retailers. In order to rectify this situation, certain store locations in these regions are offeringFallout 76for free with the purchase of a used PS4 or Xbox One controller. What’s more is that the copies of the game being given in this promotion are brand new, which implies the stores simply want to be rid of the stock.
Whether it’s the fact that the current build ofFallout 76is still a buggy mess or due to the myriad marketing muck-ups attached to the title, it’s difficult to blame GameStop Germany, Austria, and Switzerland for trying to use such a promotion to winnow away the game’s stock on-hand at the stores. After all, it’s worth noting thatFO76’s most recentpatch actually reintroduced old bugsthat were once thought to have been eliminated from the game, which would understandably dissuade many from paying full price for the title.
All things considered, one can only hope for the sake of Bethesda and theFallout 76community as a whole that the developer manages to fix all of the problems that can currently be found in the game at this point. Should the online multiplayer release remain to be in such a broken state in a month or two, there’s a good chance that many diehardFalloutfans could wind up forsaking the title altogether to dedicate their time to the new releases on the horizon for 2019.
Fallout 76is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
