Lucasfilm has clarified a statement made byStar Warsactor Ewan McGregor regardingAhsokaseason 2. McGregor has been adamant and vocal about continuing his portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi past his final film appearance as the character inEpisode III: Revenge Of The Sith. McGregor officially reprised the role in the Disney+ limited series,Obi-Wan Kenobi, in 2022.
McGregor recently made comments on a panel while speaking at FAN EXPO Boston, which led to fans on social media believing that he would be reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the second season ofAhsoka, which stars his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Colliderhas reported that Lucasfilm reached out to several media outlets likeStar Wars News Netto deny McGregor’s involvement inAhsoka. McGregor was asked at the panel what his favoriteStar Warsproject was that he was not involved in, where he said it wasAhsoka. The quote from the panel has been transcribed, which can be found below.
Well, I like watching my wife, you know, so I really enjoyed Ahsoka. I thought that was brilliantly done. It’s so funny, like, you know, she’s shooting the second season now, and I know. Is that a secret?

Well, she is anyway. And so I just finished doing a play. So I’m at home with our son, who’s four, and I take him to school and everything. And then I’m, you know, bumbling around the house, and I’d fetch a FaceTime. I forget that she’s going to be green, you know. She pops up, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, oh yes.’ You know, often she’s in her trailer without all the head stuff on, but she’s just green, you know. She’s a very beautiful green lady, so. I love that.
Ewan McGregor Wants To Reprise Obi-Wan Kenobi, But It Won’t Be In Ahsoka (For Now)
Ahsokaseason 2 currently filming and stars Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, the fabled formerJedi apprentice of Anakin Skywalker(Hayden Christensen). Its first season, released in 2023, fleshed out Ahsoka’s story in live action, previously only seen in animated form duringStar Wars: The Clone Wars. The character’s first live-action appearance by Dawson was in season 2, episode 5 ofThe Mandalorian.
Ahsokais no stranger to cameos and reappearances of popularStar Warscharacters, most notably Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. Our Take On Ewan McGregor’s Comments Regarding Season 2 Of Ahsoka
While McGregor’s excitement is palpable about returning to the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi, it seems that excitement and Kenobi fervor took over in this situation. Whether McGregor’s comments were taken out of context or he simply misspoke, Lucasfilm felt strongly enough regarding the situation to deny his involvement.
However, if history has taught us anything, it’s that Lucasfilm and Disney love the element of surprise, and it’s possible McGregor revealed his surprise before he was supposed to. This element was no more prevalent than the shocking return of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in theseason 2 finale ofThe Mandalorian.
Fans of the Obi-Wan Kenobi character would love to see McGregor back in the role, especially with so much story to explore between the end ofKenobiandEpisode IV: A New Hope. Whether it’s in the second season ofAhsoka, or theObi-Wan Kenobiseason 2, McGregor fans will have to wait, at least for now, to hear another new “Hello There” through their speakers.
