As players no doubt know from bothRed Dead Redemptiongames, the Outlaw life is not a good one. It would often take a toll on personal relationships, seen in the kidnapping of the Marston family and theloss of Arthur Morgan’s son, Isaac. The events ofRed Dead Redemption 2would haunt several characters for years, and directly or otherwise, impact their death.

With the two games spanning decades and, specifically, four years, it’s interesting to see how the life of the Dutch Van Der Linde gang caught up to them. Some were directly, dying during the events ofRed Dead Redemption 2,while others paid the price for their crimes years later.

The most interesting aspect will be those who got out of theDutch Van Der Linde gangalive and, ultimately, not impacted by its events years later. These are the characters who earned true redemption, but many of them were also never considered outlaws to begin with. Before looking at who gets out alive inRed Dead Redemption 2, it’s worth honoring those who didn’t.

If there’s anything common about the surviving characters, it’s that they held believes in something other than the Dutch Van Der Linde gang. Many clung to the original ideals and didn’t lose themselves along the way—not just to Dutch himself— while others had faith in family, themselves, or something more religious in nature. Truth be told, the fact that 9 members of the 24 survive the events is quite surprising.

Red Dead Redemption 2is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
