Announced this past week, the Epic Games Store has officially launched. One of the games announced duringThe Game Awards 2018isHades, a rogue-like dungeon crawler from Supergiant Games.Hadesis available now in Early Access, but only exclusively through the Epic Games Store. It’s an extremely understated way to announce such a highly anticipated storefront, but launch appears to be just the beginning for the Epic Games Store.
In addition to featuring the exclusive early access ofHades, the Epic Games Store has a few more surprises in store for early adopters. According to the front page of the Epic Games Store, Epic will be offering free games to all users bimonthly going forward. While no games are currently available for free, the program will go live starting December 14 withSubnauticaand will follow that up on December 28 withSuper Meat Boy.
Another special announcement was snuck onto the Epic Games Store frontpage that no one expected. One of the games listed on the storefront isJourney, the hit PlayStation 4 exclusive from all the way back in 2012. This will be the first timeJourneywill be released on a non-PlayStation platform, a milestone event for ThatGameCompany. But it is PC game players who will be the most rewarded, sinceJourneywas widely considered the best game of 2012.
This is just the start for the Epic Games Store, obviously. The storefront has just 16 total games listed on its front page, with many not yet released. Considering its promise of an 88% to 12% revenue share and the built-in userbase coming over fromFortnite, it’s only a matter of time before there are more games to keep track of.
