Last week, theEpic Games Storekicked off its holiday mystery game promotion withDestiny 2: Legacy Collection, which includes the base gamealongside Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and Witch Queen. All of this content is a great way to kick off the holiday promo, which typically sees a game given away every day, but this title lasted an unusual amount of time. Instead of a single day or a free Thursday-to-Thursday week, it was only made available until today, Wednesday, December 20. Now replacing it as the free mystery game isDNF Duel, which kickstarts the typical daily rotation with a new mystery game on December 21 replacing it.
It was previously rumored thatDNF Duelwould be the free Epic Games Store game for December 20, although the leaker Billbil-kun did not have “definitive proof.” Instead, Billbil-kun managed expectations by making it clear they believed there was a high chance, but they could not definitively say as they have in the past. Billbil-kun has an incredible track record when it comes to leaks, so their word is more reliable than many others. It remains to be seen what they say of future mystery games, but this week’s addition is exciting and should really kick the mystery game promo into high gear.

Epic Games Store Free Mystery Game
Now,Epic Games Storeusers will be able to claimDNF Duelfor the next 24 hours and another game once that time has expired. DNF Duel is a 2.5D fighting game from the beloved Arc System Works, where players have plenty of characters to choose from in beat ‘em up world. It features an online mode, free battle, story mode, arcade mode, and survival mode; practically everything someone would expect from a fighting game and then some.
The game replacing it tomorrow seems to be wrapped in teal wrapping paper, complete with a ton of triangles that could disturb the eyes or resemble Christmas trees. Sometimes the wrapping paper hides hints about the next game, but it’s uncertain what this is. The only game that comes to mind isThe Legend of Zelda, and that’s not coming to the Epic Games Store. Now, it could be agame likeThe Legend of Zelda, but it’s more likely that the triangles represent something else entirely.Oxenfreewould be a good possible contender, however.

As to what the next mystery game promo will be or what the Epic Games Store will add throughout the coming weeks remains to be seen; no doubt, that’s an exciting prospect to add to the ongoing holiday cheer. In the past, this promo has given awaymajor games likeDeath Stranding, Borderlands 3, and more, with a plethora of other varied-sized titles scattered around, so fans can have reasonably high expectations for each promo. Ultimately, a free game is a free game, and EGS is delivering those in spades right now.
