When it comes to space exploration games likeElite Dangerous, it’s all about cruising through the galaxy and making your mark. With theHorizons DLC now free to play, players can more easily experience everything thatElite Dangeroushas to offer.
However, when it comes to making one’s mark inElite Dangerous, the game has traditionally had fewer options than other space sims. Until the new Odyssey DLC drops, players cannot walk on planets or establish bases on them. But to help get the ball rolling with the DLC,Elite Dangerous' devs are holding a raffle where players might get their name in the game.

The winner of the raffle will not be known for a while, since theOdyssey DLC is delayeddue to the Coronavirus. However, there is, as of this article, still time for players to enter it. Essentially, players can enter the name they want into the raffle, and then the devs will draw five random names from the pot. They’ll throw out any names that might prove problematic (so it’s best to stick to something PC) and the five names they are left with will become names for various places added in the Odyssey DLC.
Granted, it’s not exactly specified what kind of locations will bear the names of the lucky players chosen. ConsideringOdyssey will introduce on-foot exploration toElite Dangerous, it’s entirely possible that these names will grace planets or planetary features. Anyone entering should not be disappointed if their name does not wind up gracing a star cluster. It’s also a toss-up as to how many actual names will wind up being picked rather than joke names. After all, the internet tends to put forth more outlandish titles for vehicles or landmarks when given the chance, as evidence tends to show.
The way thatElite Dangeroushas evolved over the years and continues to do so is certainly impressive. That’s the thing aboutspace-sims likeElite DangerousandNo Man’s Sky: there’s almost infinite room for growth.
With moreinformation on settlements inOdysseyrevealedrecently, it’s clear players will have a lot to do. Obviously settlements can be named after players if they so desire, but only a few have the opportunity to have a landmark bear their names. The contest is open until the 22nd, so there’s still some time to get an entry in.
Elite: Dangerousis available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
