With the course being offered as an addition to Duolingo’s broader Japanese offerings, the Crunchyroll collaboration is set to include a lineup of around 50 different animeslogans, catchphrases, and iconic dialoguefrom several different classic and contemporary anime series.

The phrases are set to represent a variety of series, but Naruto’s “Believe it!” and Vegeta’s iconic power-level read, “It’s Over 9000!” are confirmed as highlights. The context of these phrases is designed to play into Duolingo’s overall structure of helping language learners understand the grammatical context of these phrases. By knowing how they work on a language level, understanding these iconic lines might just make fans come to appreciate their uniqueness on an entirely new level.

The demand for language-conscious TV watching is certainly there. Official statistics from Duolingo cite that around 26% of its Japanese-language students cite popular culture and foreign-language entertainment like anime as being the top priority for why they choose to learn the languagefor its anime offerings.
