Dishonored 2was one of the most interesting releases over the past year. While the game was almost universally praised for the way it handled improvements made to its predecessor’s already impressive array of action RPG innovations,Dishonored 2also suffered from rocky salesas a result of an unsteady and bug-laden PC launch. In many ways,Dishonored 2was one of 2016’s bigger disappointments, despite a generally favorable review score and positive feedback from those who played the game on consoles.
That doesn’t mean Bethesda and Arkane Studios have given up onDishonored 2, however. At Bethesda’s short but sweet E3 2017 presentation, the developer revealed thatDishonored 2would be getting its first expansion DLC later this year, and the new content will be an important measuring stick for the viability of future DLC releases as well. That’s because the expansion will be called Death of the Outsider, and it will feature returning favorites Billie Lurk and Daud as they attempt to bring down the supernatural, black-eyed god ofDishonored’s world.
The decision to return to characters that were largely established during the firstDishonoredgame’s DLC - although Lurk got a lot of exposition inDishonored 2as well - is an interesting decision that could be because of the disappointing sales figures for the sequel.Dishonored 2focused pretty heavily on Emily and Corvo, and switching to new characters might mean that Bethesda has lost faith in the ability ofDishonored 2’s protagonists to generate interest.
That being said, however,Dishonoredalso featured DLC that followed an entirely different character in Daud, so it’s just as likely that this is Arkane Studios and Bethesda’s preferred approach to exploring the world ofDishonored. Bethesda has also committed pretty heavily to improvingDishonored 2through patches and add-ons thus far, so fans should expect the new DLC to be more in the same vein as the well-received post-launch content.
Dishonored 2: Death of the Outsiderwill release for PS4, PC, and Xbox One on June 01, 2025.
