WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for Dexter: Resurrection episodes 1 & 2.

Dexter just broke Harry’s code in a way I never thought was possible inDexter: Resurrectionepisode 2. After surviving being shot by Harrison at theend ofNew Blood, Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan appears to be much more prone to taking risks in the second spinoff sequel series of the franchise.

Thefirst two episodes ofDexter: Resurrectionbring back both old and new characters and storylines set for the first time ever in New York City. While Dexter is focused on looking after Harrison, who had just committed his true first kill in a luxurious hotel, original series character Angel Batista begins to pursue an investigation into Dexteras the real Bay Harbor Butcher.

Dexter Risked His Cover To Save An Innocent Person In Resurrection Episode 2

Dexter Prevented The Dark Passenger From Killing Another Rideshare Victim

Dexter risks blowing his own cover with “The Dark Passenger”, a serial killer whose real name isRobert Schmidt that Dexter refers to as “The Imposter.“Dexter stops Schmidt from getting into the backseat of a rideshare car, revealing his face to Schmidt, who walks away surprised and confused.

Because Dexter intervened prematurely, the “Imposter” has seen his face and may become suspicious of Dexter in future episodes ofResurrection.

The number one rule ofHarry’s code has always been “Don’t get caught.“He saves lives by killing killers, not by intervening and preventing their kills like he did inResurrectionpart 2. Because Dexter intervened prematurely, the “Imposter” has seen his face and may become suspicious of Dexter in future episodes ofResurrection.

Dexter historically has not gone out of his way to save a completely random innocent person. This has never been the type of vigilante killer he is. He actually started to go the other way at the end ofNew Blood, killing the completely innocent cop character, Sgt. Logan, to escape from a jail cell.

Dexter Is Developing A Stronger Moral Compass After His Near-Death Experience

He’s Taking More Risks But Becoming A More Selfless Person In The Process

Dexter’s love for Harrison and reinvigorated purpose as a father are bringing out a new sentimental side to him, even though he’s a sociopath. He prevented the Imposter from killing a UrCar driver after befriending Blessing Kamara, whilethe OG Dexter would have waited, letting the rideshare driver dieto set the Imposter up to be killed at a later time.

Michael C. Hall recently revealed in an interview withScreen Rantthat Dexter is not only coming back to life inDexter: Resurrection, but is now “reborn.” It will be interesting to see what other changes take place in Dexter’s value system after his near-death experience, and if any more aspects of Harry’s code will be bent or broken with this second chance at life in the Big Apple.
