Behaviour Interactive’sDead by Daylightis an asymmetrical 4v1 horror game that features an imposing Killer attempting to sacrifice every Survivor in a given arena before they are able to escape. That’s been the modus operandi for four years, but when Behaviour introduced itsDead by DaylightandSilent Hillcrossoverthis week it also left open the possibility of new game modes being implemented in the future.
Behaviour Interactive creative director Dave Richard said that “who knows what can happen” with new modes “as the game and its community grows” during an interview about the Chapter 16:Silent Hillreveal with the website Rely on Horror.Dead by Daylightcontinues to expand to different platforms, most recently through ahighly-downloaded mobile version, and hook big fish like Konami for licensed additions, so it’s not unreasonable to assume the game may be hitting that point.

Though Richard said to “never say never” when it comes to a potential new game mode, the developers are currently focused on other projects. During the livestreamed four-year anniversarySilent Hillreveal Tuesday, producer Stefan Beauchamp-Daniel announced a fan-requestedcrossplay feature will comeDead by Daylightby the end of the year, and at the same time the team is working on updating its visuals.
ThoughDead by Daylightonly has the one game mode, each update’s new Killers and Survivors offer different perks that help to vary the experience wherever possible. For instance,Silent Hill’s Pyramid Headwill be heavily focused on stealth and deception while being able to kill others on the spot in certain circumstances when he becomes officially available on PC and consoles June 16.
The game’s mobile version is more behind in terms of available characters because it is such a recent release, but Behaviour Interactive has been working on its roster.Dead by Daylight Mobileadded Leatherface, known as “The Cannibal,” from theTexas Chainsaw Massacremovies earlier this month.
Whether its developers move forward with a new game mode or not, the future looks bright for this four-year-old asymmetrical horror game. The possibilities for new tie-ins and original characters alike seem endless forDead by Daylight, and with features like crossplay on the way there should be plenty of reasons to keep playing.
