It’s no secret by now that Remedy Entertainment’sControlhas many connections toAlan Wake. Easter eggs found inControlhighly suggest that the two games are set in the same universe, and it looks like Remedy will be exploring that connection even further in the future with the AWE story expansion.

Remedy recently revealed theControlDLC roadmap, detailing exactly what fans can expect from the game in 2019 and beyond. 2019 will see the addition of a Photo Mode and a new game mode called Expeditions, but 2020 is whenControlfans can look forward to new story expansions. The first story expansion is called The Foundation and will see players venture to the bottom of the Old House, but the more interesting expansion forAlan Wakefans is AWE, which is scheduled to launch in mid 2020.

We know next to nothing about theControlAWE expansion and what it will entail, but fans have noted that its art seems to indicate that it will be aboutAlan Wake. The AWE letters in the DLC roadmap are stylized to show what appears to be a forest, with someone holding a flashlight standing in the center. This imagery is highly reminiscent ofAlan Wake, so it’s not a stretch to say that theControlAWE DLC is in fact anAlan Wake-themed expansion.

Some fans have taken the speculation a step further and point out that “AWE” could be an acronym forAlanWakeExpansion. This could be true, but AWE also has a meaning inControlitself. Those who have played throughControlwill know that AWE stands for Altered World Event, and as we learned from the variousAlan Wakeeaster eggsin the game, the events in Bright Falls was an Altered World Event that was investigated by the FBC.

Perhaps the likelyControl/Alan WakeDLC will give fans some closure. However, some may prefer to see a full-fledgedAlan Wake 2instead. Such a game still hasn’t been announced, but it’s much more likely to materialize now thatRemedy has regained the publishing rights toAlan Wake.
