After 18 years of waiting, Chuck Lorre’s upcoming Netflix comedy show,Leanne, is set to be the perfect replacement for the classic sitcom,Reba.Created by Alison M. Gibbon,Rebafollows the titular single mother as she navigates heartbreak, drama, and changes in her family as she tries to raise her three children following a bitter divorce from her ex-husband.

Thecast ofRebawas led by Grammy Award-winning country singer, Reba McEntire, recognized worldwide as the “Queen of Country Music.” Alongside her leading role inReba, McEntire has had success in other acting roles, includingher acclaimed performance in NBC’sHappy’s Placeand her recurring role as June inYoung Sheldon.

Rebaran for six seasons between 2001 and 2007 and is consideredone of the most overlooked sitcomsby viewers, receiving high praise for its humor, plot, and character development. Among different accolades, McEntire won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Female Performer in 2001 and received a Golden Globe nomination in 2003.

Since the series' finale in 2007, many sitcoms have worked to live up to the same level of humor and drama provided inReba. But while there have been many successful sitcoms over the years, this new Netflix series created by Chuck Lorre looks to be the perfect replacement that I’ve waited almost two decades to see.

Netflix’s Leanne Looks Very Similar To Reba

Leanne Will Debut On Netflix In July 2025

Lorre’s Netflix sitcom,Leanne, will star stand-up comedian Leanne Morgan in the titular role, and it is shown to be very similar toReba.Leanneis set to debut on Netflix on Aug 10, 2025, and, likeReba, follows the title character as she tries to rebuild her life and family after her husband leaves her for a younger woman.

As shown inLeanne’sofficial trailer, Lorre’s new sitcom will embrace the same chaos and humor that played a large part inReba’ssuccess. Leanne is shown to be struggling with the aftermath of her husband’s departure, but finds comfort through looking after her children and grandchildren. Leanne receives support from her parents and sister as she adjusts to the single life.

Leannealso appears to share the same comedic and humorous tone that madeRebaa success with viewers. Both series offer a lighthearted take on divorce and starting over later in life. The Netflix sitcom is set to run for 16 episodes, but depending on its success with critics and viewers, it could be renewed for a second season.

Leanne’s Sitcom Story Sounds Much Better Than A Reba Remake

It Offers A More Modern Adaptation Of Divorce & Family

SinceReba’sconclusion in 2007, there has been speculation about whether the classic sitcom would receive a remake. While revisitingRebawould be interesting, a reboot carries the pressure of being too nostalgic for viewers and having to adjust to modern humor. ARebaremake also has the worry of potentially stretching out the original story too far.

Netflix’sLeannesitcom can offer a fresh take onReba’sthemes of adultery, separation, and its impact on family dynamics through a more middle-aged character than in the 2001 show. It will also provide viewers with a more modern sense of humor and drama that was seen in theRebasitcom.

WhileLeanne’sviewership and critical success cannot be determined yet, the Chuck Lorre sitcom shows that it has what is necessary to serve as the perfect sitcom replacement forReba.
